Nedbank FICA Nightmare.
I am a foreign student at the University of the Western Cape and i have a student account with Nedbank. Before i left my home country, my education sponsors send me money for my accommodation, books and other expenses for the beginning of the semester. This meant i only traveled with my enough for my travels, hoping that when i got into South Africa i would then collect my money from the bank and use it accordingly. However Nedbank had sent an SMS on my phone informing that i needed to send in my FICA documents and had also in that limited time-frame (I was out of the country for two weeks) had taken the liberty to block my account which i find very aggressive on their part. But rules are rules so i decided to go to a Nedbank Branch (At CPUT Bellville Campus) yesterday to submit my FICA documents. The chap (who was highly *********** ) wasted a good two hours only to tell me this would take days to clear which i also completely understood. I then called the Nedban FICA consultants and pleaded with them that i needed to access my account because all my funds are in there. The call centre people (who were very helpful) told me that i should tell the branch to do a temporary upliftment for me to access my account for at least 24 hours while my documents were being verified, which made all the sense in the world. The gentleman at the branch whose incompetence as i have alluded to earlier is of epic proportions proceeded to take the documents i heard without telling me there was a mistake with them so that i could go and get new documents. After some back and forth with the said gentleman, two hours of it again, he then let me know that they could not deal with a temporary upliftment at the branch because they ddnt have a manager who has authority to do such things. I then suggested to go to the Parow Branch where i was told i had submitted wrong documents and should thus bring correct ones. Again as much as i was livid with the situation i decided to follow rules so i told them i would bring the correct documents which i did this morning. After this submission i thought the SOS upliftment as the call it would be swift and i would be able to access my cash, alas Nedbank had other ideas. I spent the whole day being told to wait and then told that the request had been declined because i sent wrong documents (which the idiot at CPUT accepted as correct so how would i know). Even after submitting the correct ones, the FICA people did not reply and my account remains blocked. Iam a student, i dont work and now iam starving (I last had a meal yesterday) and without a place to stay with all my stuff. All the while the FICA consultants on the phone keep telling me its a branch process that should be almost instant. How does it become an SOS upliftment when it takes a whole two days to execute and even then it still fails. Nedbank you are the worst bank in South Africa and once this issue is sorted i am closing my account because you have abused me with all this redtape bull****. Iam Done!
