Nedbank Debited My Account for a Settled Homeloan and Delayed Refund
I am extremely frustrated with the unacceptable service I have received from Nedbank. On 31 March 2026, Nedbank debited R18,000 from my account for a home loan that was already settled. When I contacted my bank to reverse the debit order, I was informed that Nedbank had blocked the reversal on their side. On 2 April 2026, I contacted Nedbank directly and requested an urgent refund, as this was a significant amount of money that I rely on for essential living expenses. I was assured that the refund would be processed within 4 working days. Two weeks later, after receiving no refund, I followed up again only to be told that the refund would now only be approved on 18 April 2026. This is a drastic and unacceptable delay from the initial 4 working days I was promised. As a result of Nedbank’s error, I have been forced to rely on my credit facility to cover basic expenses, and I am now incurring interest costs for a situation that is entirely their fault. This has placed unnecessary financial strain on me and my family. It is deeply concerning that while customers are penalised immediately for missed or failed debit orders, Nedbank takes its time correcting its own mistakes with no regard for the financial impact on its clients. Access to funds for essentials like food and petrol has been compromised due to this error. I expect Nedbank to Immediately process and release my refund Reimburse any interest or costs incurred as a result of this error Provide a formal explanation for the delay and why the debit order reversal was blocked This experience reflects a serious lack of accountability and customer care. I strongly urge others to reconsider their banking choices if this is the level of service one can expect. I hope this matter is resolved urgently.
