Nedbank ***** APPALING - CPT194140
On 25 February 2025, my bank card was ****** at an ATM by a man who tried to persuade me into using the TAP method instead of entering my PIN when withdrawing money from the ATM. He took the card under the pretense of assisting me and took off with it. At no point did I enter or share my PIN.
I immediately contacted Nedbank's ***** Department to report the incident and requested the card be blocked. Since this occurred after working hours, I visited the Nedbank branch the following day. The consultant confirmed the card had been cancelled and, critically, confirmed that:
No PIN was ever used for any withdrawals or transactions.
The card was not tapped.
My daily limits had mysteriously been increased, well beyond my normal set limits.
She was equally puzzled at how such a large amount — R20,000 — could have been withdrawn from my accounts.
Later, the ***** department stated the most likely explanation was card cloning. For 13 weeks, I followed up countless times. I spent hours on hold, being passed from person to person with no one ever proactively contacting me.
Now, on 9 June 2025, I finally received a letter from Nedbank stating that they refuse to refund me, claiming that my PIN was compromised — a complete contradiction to what their own branch staff and earlier investigations confirmed.
This is unacceptable. Nedbank has:
Provided inconsistent and contradictory explanations.
Failed to take accountability for security failures and possible internal manipulation of my withdrawal limits.
Shown a complete lack of customer care and responsibility over nearly 3 months.
R20,000 was ****** from me due to flaws in your systems or possible insider *****, and Nedbank’s stance is to deny responsibility and hope I go away.
Absolutely appalling service. I expected better from a major bank.
