Nedbank and cheques

I went to the Waterfall Mall branch in Rustenburg on Monday 14 September. I needed to deposit a bank cheque from Absa. After waiting outside for around 15 minutes I was approached by one of the personnel and I stated that I needed to deposit the cheque. She told me they do not deal in cheques anymore and I left the premises without entering the bank. About half an hour later I consulted the Nedbank web site and discovered that Nedbank still accepts cheques even though they do not issue them anymore. On the following Wednesday I was indeed able to deposit the cheque at the Von Wielligh Square branch. To their credit, the employee who welcomed me at the branch was also very helpful and friendly. It does, however, leave you with a bitter taste in the mouth that the experience can vary so much from branch to branch and that the personnel at one branch are not properly trained in the policies and procedures.
