*********** service and ******* practice

I recently was paid out the amount for a building loan with Nedbank.

Following this they required proof of home owners insurance to cover the bond, otherwise they would provide the insurance.

I duly sent Nedbank Insurance proof of my homeowners insurance through another short-term broker. Only to keep receiving sms's to send proof of payment by a certain date otherwise they would start debiting me for their homeowners insurance. I then phoned to clarify why they had not received my proof of cover. They said they had not received it and i should try another email address. I duly did this and got confirmation from a consultant that they had received my proof of insurance. I assumed all was order.

Well I was wrong! At the end of last month, with the interest rate change, I received correspondence of my adjusted installment, but then noticed on the statement that homeowners insurance was being deducted for R500! Then sure enough it went off the debit order on the 01 August.

I have since emailed and phoned Nedbank insurance and home loan departments trying to resolve the matter.

The service has been appalling, the follow up almost non-existent. Thus far, after much time and money in phone calls I have managed to get out of them that the address on my insurance policy was different to the address they had listed for my home loan so they didn't accept my proof of cover.

Now why, after sending proof of my insurance policy 3 times they did not let me know of that discrepency for their records?! A simple email would have sufficed.

The explanation was simple. The house is on a corner plot and the home loan listed the one street address and my insurance policy the other street address [which is the side of front of the house and so is the address we are actually using]

I have subsequently emailed them a copy of my municipality account as proof of the actual address as the one Nedbank consultant had requested.

Well I have since heard nothing. Today I tried to call again but after an hour of backwards and forwards through departments and getting nowhere, I gave up.

Now surely it is ******* according to the credit act for them to just debit R500 from my account after I have attempted 3 times to present them with proof of existing insurance cover. Further I have received no information on their insurance cover, what the policy entails, signed nothing, just an additional debit order!!

But further to this the complete incompentence in service/customer care has been appalling!

So, I am expecting this home insurance with Nedbank to be cancelled and the monies they have effectively ****** from me reimbursed [with damages].

Thank you

I made a mistake with the star rating. It should be one star i.e. terrible, not 4 stars! But unfortunately you cannot downgrade the rating after it ha been published
