*********** Nedbank staff in Port Elizabeth

On the 30th of June 2020, two men approached me at the ATM. One grabbed my bank card and switched it with a false card. I am a 71-year-old female pensioner. I was so traumatized and shook up by this event, that I couldn't stop shaking. When I tried to withdraw my pension money, I couldn't. The card didn't work. Then I started receiving sms's of money being withdrawn from my account. Within a minute R 8 950 was withdrawn. I called the toll free no of the bank - no answer. I went to the bank immediately to report this incident. 2 branches of Nedbank where closed, so I had to go to the City Centre branch. There I stood in a queue for hours. Senior citizens/pensioners do not even receive any goodwill treatment. I was shocked to experience the total incompetency of the staff when I eventually got inside the bank. Such unfriendly, hostile, and baist behavior from a female staff member. She only told me they have canceled my card. She didn't offer any further assistance. She didn't open a ***** case or gave me a new card. I sent Nedbank an email explaining the incident again, including my bank statement, requesting the way forward. After 2 weeks, I received a letter from the bank, stating that they completed their ***** investigation. They made me out to be the "guilty" party. They offered me a "goodwill” settlement payment of half the amount that was withdrawn from my account. With all the *******ion going around today, one wonders in whose pocket the other half of my money will end up. After being promised that it would take a maximum of a month for my money to be reimbursed, Still today, 14 August 2020, I still haven’t received anything yet. Instead, I received a phone call from the bank today, basically “accusing” me from being negligent and that I dragged my feet to report this immediately after the incident took place. If these officials just took the time to see the long queues of people trying to get into the bank, they would think twice before making such accusations. I had worked for a bank for 29 years, and never in my day imagined that this appalling low standard of client service and incompetence would come to this. I seriously think senior management of Nedbank should send their employees for training, especially with the treatment of clients. I want to warn all the senior citizens/pensioners out there today, stay away from Nedbank. Close your accounts and go to ANY other bank, where you would be treated with some kind of dignity.
