I spoke too soon

I think I spoke too soon, and gave credit before I saw the end. After being dissappointed by my bank that I had used for so many years, Absa and treated like a number and statistic. I went to Nedbank with the hope of being treated like a real customer.

And guess what? I was wrong. I went to your Nedbank branch in Umlazi Mega City on the 9th of March 2017. I was in need of financial assistance due to an unforseen emergency.

The definition of emergency -a serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action.

I was assisted by Mr. Khulekani Zulu and was told that I qualify for an amount of R40,000. I told him that I do not need so much, all I need it R5000.

My visit was literally less than 15 minutes and I was told that in 48 hours I will receive an sms confirming that funds have been deposited into my banking account.

I won't lie, after hearing that I left with a smile and my confidence was regained after I was crushed at my bank, called Absa.

Please bear in mind that this was on a Thursday and according to my watch, 48 hours was on Saturday-11/03/2017.

I received a call on Friday 10/03/2017 from Mr. Zulu saying that my application is still in the employment confirmation queue and I will receive my monies either on Saturday-11/03/2017 or latest on Monday-13/03/2017.

I still smiled, as I needed these funds for my emergency that needed urgent attention on 13/03/2017. Monday came and it was really blue. I had to ask my spouse to follow up for me as I did not have access to contact your branch to follow up.

My spouse contacted your branch and he was told that the application was now in the verification queue and funds will be disbursed anytime from now. To cut a long story short. I did not just go and apply for finance to throw a kitchen party ,but again I app**** for finance, because of an emergency. But my matter, instead of being treated like a priority, was treated like a burden.

My partner stopped calling the branch and following up for a whole week since it is not his job and not an employee at Nedbank but eventually followed up again on the 24th of March after 13:00pm. My spouse asked for the manager, but was told the manager is on leave.

He requested to speak to someone who is 2nd in charge and spoke to another gentleman by the name of Christopher Meth.

His tone was really not warm at all for someone who is standing in for the branch manager knowing very well that a call is being transferred to him.

My spouse asked him to spell his name, but he was mumbling as if he does not want my spouse to even get it down.

I really don’t know. Is this how service is delivered ,because your branch is in a so called lower class area, Umlazi?

After my spouse asked them to give me feedback regarding this. I received a call that my matter has been escalated. Is escalated a word that is used to just shut us up or is something really being done about this?

On the 25th I received an email from Mr. Floyd Marema apologizing for my experience and they are busy working on it. And later again on the 28th of March I received an sms stating that my application has been declined. And then later an email from the same gentleman saying that my application has been declined following a risk assessment-regrettably no appeals will be considered.

Wow I was shocked. It took Nedbank almost 3 weeks to tell me that my application has been declined whereas when I was at the branch I was told that i qualify for an amount of R40,000. So I guess the mistake I made was to complain and was later just shut up by the big word we all fret-DECLINE.

I end my story here. I would like to thank your company for declining me as I was approved by your competitor and real service custodian- Capitec bank on the 31st of March 2017. And guess what, no follow ups no complaints. I was in and before I got off my seat. My monies reflected in my account.

If you want to do business- Capitec is the bank that knows who customers are and really know what the word emergency means.

from: Sneh Mngadi
