I no longer trust Nedbank or any online ELECTRONIC banking self-service.
I compared 32 notice investment accounts recently, and decided to invest a substantial amount with Nedbank, who offers up to 8.8% interest in their 32-day notice ELECTRONIC investment account. The account must be set up electronically through the app. Everyone is aiming at 100% digital banking these days. So you can imagine my reluctance when substantial savings are being sent electronically to an account number that I created online, with so much online ***** and electronic mistakes, no paperwork to prove the opening of the account, the transfer of the cash or a face to face meeting with a banker. Two days ago, I started the process online, completing the call-back form on the 32day ELECTRONIC Notice account page.
1. In the BRANCH field, no text is accepted, so the field remains to be marked in red, and the form cannot be submitted to request a call-back, I complained to Nedbank on their Facebook page. They said one of their people would call me, or I could call the customer care line. I gave my cell number and ID number.
2. I then proceeded to open the account through the Nedbank Money app. Towards the end of the process, there was a technical error. I had written down the reference number and new account number, and was given 25 days in which to deposit the new investment. The technical error did not allow me to conclude the process. I tried several times and the app through me out every time at the end of the process.
3. I then called the Call Centre number to confirm that the account had been opened before I sent money to it. The agent took all my details confirmed that the account number that I had taken down, was in fact open and that I could proceed to send the investment amount to it. I explained that I want the account number in writing, and that I wanted a statement confirming this number, even with a zero balance. The agent suggested that I go to a Nedbank branch to get this.
4. So yesterday, I went to Nedbank Melville in Campus Square, where a staff member asked me to open the app. The app did not work, and she presumed that it could have happened because of the Technical Error that I received at the end of the setup process. She helped me to set up the Nedbank Money App again with a new password. There was no investment account listed on my profile.
5. I then asked her to check on the system, what is the status of the account number that was given to me during my online setting up of the account the previous day. With my ID number, she found that I had opened an account the previous day, but that a) the last digit of the account number was not the same as the number I had had, and it was not the 32-day ELECTRONIC notice account that I specifically selected, and it did not offer the 8.8% rate. I asked for a hard copy statement of this account number, before I transferred the investment funds into it. I am already getting nervous with the Technical Error, the different account number, and now it is the wrong account type!!! She referred me to the enquiries window.
5. At enquiries, the lady behind the counter opened my banking profile on her system. I have no other accounts with Nedbank at the moment. She informed me that there was no investment or any other account listed on my banking profile. She suggested that she helps me to open a new 32-day ELECTRONIC investment account for me on my app, which she did, because the previous two account numbers would expire if no funds were forthcoming.
6. At the end of the process, she showed me on the app, that on the investment page, the new, THIRD, account number showed up as pending, and that tomorrow, which is this morning, it would show up as active, after which I can transfer the funds from my Capitec account. I later tried to send a small amount to this NEW account from my Capitec app, to see if it would work, and the Nedbank account number I was given, was not recognised and could not be verified.
7. This morning, I opened the Nedbank app, and there are no accounts that reflect on my investment page, either pending or active.
I have lost all faith in Nedbank and investing a substantial amount through an online platform that is riddled with errors and excuses. In the mean time, I am losing several days of interest, while the funds are laying in a current account at another bank. I no longer trust Nedbank or any online ELECTRONIC digital self-help platform. Perhaps Cyril wasn't so wrong to hide his cash in a couch.
How can I entrust my life savings to a bank which cannot even get it's platforms to work properly? This online banking nonesense is premature and it clearly does not work.
