I got to the bank before money cleared claiming I paid into ********** account and still lost it because they never acted on my behalf.
Hi there everyone my wife and I have fallen victims to ***** and it really feels like the systems and procedures the banks have in place are in place so the ********* gets rich and get away with ***** while us honest people bite the bullet.
On the 10th of August my wife transfered an amount a little over R3000 into a Nedbank account only to find out the next day that it was a ********** account. The people we needed to pay were hacked and a second email with this nedbank account was sent to us. We never realized that the banking details differed on the emails and paid into the ********** account.
When we realized what had happened my wife got hold of StandardBank her bank and I went to Nedbank my bank to see what we could do to rectify this problem.
When she phoned her banker at Standard bank she was told that she needs to pay R310 so they can recall the transfer but there is no garenty that we would get anything back. They swiftly took the R 310 and we stuck without our money.
When I got to Nedbank the money we paid in to this ********** account still hadn't cleared and the money was in the account. I gave them all the proof I had and they noticed the account was relatively new with a trend of money coming in and as it came in it would clear out. If you ask me there's all the proof you need to freeze the account and raise some flags. Needless to say they didn't do anything and you can imagine the money cleared and today we received an email from standard bank saying that nedbank can not refund the amount because there are insufficient funds. All we needed was a little faster action from both banks and we wouldn't be in this situation right now.
So it seems that if you are looking to start some ********** activities the procedures banks need to go through are all in your favor. This is to the detriment of their own clients.
This has left a very bad taste in my mouth and has me reconsidering the bank I want to bank with in the future. Maybe they all the same and if that's the case then maybe these procedures need to change. If banks are trying to clamp down on ***** and ********* doing these things they are definitely going about this in the wrong manner.
