I am tired of Nedbank
I have a credit card with nedbank since 2016 and had been paying it nicely until 2018 when my husband got retrenched. He had a Nedbank loan at the time of retrenchment and went to the bank with the letter of retrenchment. In 2017 we decided to go into Debt Review after hearing how so many people are getting out of debt faster with very low interest rates, little did we know that we had signed a deal wit the devil. After my husband got retrenched, we went to the debt counsellor and we were told that his debts will be withheld for a while until he finds something. 2019 April I heard from a colleague how MaxLaw attorneys were specialties in removing one from debt review as I was unhappy with Pioneer Debt Solutions who were paying a small portion to my creditors and a big chunk of my contributions going towards their legal fees. I made arrangements with my creditors to pay. it was in September 2019 that the first debit order for my Nedbank credit card which was scheduled for the 15th of every month and the day after i withdrew what was left because all my debts should have debited on the agreed date. The same thing happened in October. In November, I got a call from attorneys that my account has not been paid as per agreement and I was shocked. When I asked what happened, i was told hat Nedbank does not do debit orders on the 15th to the 16th. I asked why this was never mentioned when we were making the payment arrangement. It was as if they wanted me to default in paying off the account. After that, i resolved to paying cash and paid in December and January. i paid again in February R1800. I didn't pay in March, as i had doubled in February. The arrangement was R900 a month. In April I got a call that my Nedbank account was handed over and I told the consultant I was aware but this time it was from Brooks & Luyt attorneys. I did not pay attention though that it was not Smit Jones & Pratt attorneys which i had been interacting with the previous year. They gave me the balance on the account which was around R39000 which my credit was approximately around the same amount. i made the R900 arrangement which was to start in May. I got the letter from Maxlaw in May 2020 claiming that my name had been removed from Debt Review and I was very happy that my credit health is going to be looking good in a few years. The debit order of R900 started debiting in May as agreed. I would get SMS reminders of payments on the 14th and I would delete sometimes without even reading. In august 2020, i read the SMS and it said i had a loan. I immediately contacted the debt collectors, that's when i started being given the runaround from pillar to post. Before i knew it, it was the next month and they debited again. It was the start of endless phone calls between the Nedbank loans department and attorney consultants. I went to the bank again in November after In was able to trace whose loan account had been linked to my name and found it was my husband. Mind you, there had been no attempts to call my husband about the loan and neither was i made aware that this belonged to him. The consultant said she did not understand why not one of us was contacted about the handing over and they jumped to transfer the debt in my name. she added that the only logical explanation was because we are married in community of property. Since December my husband has been calling to get the money shifted into my account as it was not him paying for it and he has not been successful. meanwhile I had been paying the supposed credit card,I stopped in October and went to the bank to enquire who i should call and make the payment to and made payments for the correct credit card cash. 14 January 2021 I called the credit card collectors to make a debit order arrangement to start in February and I was very clear about the amount which is R1000 and date of starting the debit order. I was emailed the APO form which I returned the same day. I made a payment of R900 15 January 2021. this morning 19 January 2021, I got a debit order notification of R1000 from my account that it went off yesterday. i called the attorneys and the lady(Lisa Faber) who was assisting me with setting up the debit order said I must call the contact center and get them to reverse the money. I called the Nedbank call center and they told me the account is with legal since it is an internal account, they cannot reverse it for me as they are not authorized to do so. i did tell the lady that the money was my petrol money for the month and bank charges. Noone has been able to help me resolve these issues with Nedbank. I need the money that I was paying through Brooks & Luyt to go into my credit card and I had been requesting voice recordings till today I have not been granted access to to verify why I had agreed to pay that debt.
