RE: - COMPLAINT AGAINST NEDBANK- UNAUTHORISED TRANSACTIONS - PROFILE NUMBER: *** & AFFECTED ACCOUNTS: *** & ***: My name is Maureen Vorster and my husband and I have accounts at Nedbank. I am writing to you out of desperation, as nobody seems to care about my Nedbank case number 2019 K 1117. Kindly find below a detailed account with copies of emails attached of my ordeal. Kindly advise whether you can help recoup my ****** funds.
I am Maureen Vorster and my date of birth is 1956/11/17 ID ***. I am a white female of 63 years old. I was busy shopping at the Pick n Pay Bracken city in Brackenhurst on 31 October 2019 at around 13H10. While I was busy shopping, a relatively tall black male approached me around 13H20 to enquire about baking stuff. While I was busy explaining to this black male about the baking stuff. I felt a bump on the left of my trolley. I turned left to see what the cause of this bump was and turned to look ahead again. I saw that this man signally to somebody behind me. I felt that something was not right and as I looked down; I saw that my handbag was open, and the man disappeared. I ran after him but he disappeared. I approached the manager, Louise, of Pick n Pay and she informed me that the black man is working with two other black women.
I learned from talking to the Manageress of Pick n Pay that two other woman and an older man was ****** of his cell phone. I went to look at the video footage of Pick n Pay and saw that their security footage is an hour behind the normal time. I saw the tall black man and the two woman leaving the shop. I finished my shopping and went to draw money and paid my water and lights account at approximately 13H43. I went home to unpack my groceries as it was very hot and I did not want to lose the cold items. I called my husband around 14H07. I called Vodacom at 14H41 to blacklist my phone and to block my sim card, and they assured me that nobody would access any of my applications. Vodacom cancelled the sim card at 14H49 and they blacklisted the phone at 14H56. I was not concerned about the Banking App as Vodacom assured me that nobody can access any of my application on my phone as the phone and they stopped the sim card. There was also no information on the phone regarding any of my passwords to any of my applications. The next day I went to sportsman's warehouse to purchase items and when I wanted to pay, the woman informed me they rejected the transaction because of insufficient funds. I then wanted to pay from another account and there were no funds in that account. I started to get worried, as I knew there was money in the accounts. I immediately went to Nedbank to draw statements and after standing in the queue. For a while, I drew statements on my accounts. I then saw that they drew R50 000 out of my account on 31/10/2019 as detailed below: 31/10/2019 18:11:22 Success full RTC payment of R50 000.00 from current account to Capitec account number *** via the Money App–referenced jcnf101’. A further R31 200 on 1/11/2019 from our Nedbank account number ***. Kindly refer below: 01/11/2019 14:48:57 Success full RTC payment of R31 200.00 from current account to Capitec account number *** via the Money App–referenced ‘payee’.
I also saw that R12 500 was drawn out of my Husbands account number *** as detailed below: 31/10/2019 18:55:51 Successful once-off payment of R12 500.00 from the savings account to Capitec account number *** via the AppSuite with eCert ***–referenced ‘payee) Kindly note that they drew the money out of our accounts after I stopped and blacklisted my cell phone.
The teller at Meyersdal Nedbank referred me to Caroline Hoffman, the Branch Manager. She immediately stopped the account profiles at 15H12. They drew the last amount of R35 000 at 14H48. The Nedbank branch manageress blocked the account profiles at 15H12 and assured me that that they will do their best to assist me. I requested them to immediately place a hold on the Capitec accounts where the money was transferred too so that who’s ever account that was could not get hold of my ****** money. The manageress tried to call the Nedbank ***** department and she could not get hold of them. The Nedbank ***** department did not answer their phones. Caroline said that the Nedbank app no longer works but all the money was gone, anyway. The ********** created beneficiaries through the Nedbank Money app in order to transfer the funds. Because the cell phone was ****** and blocked, I did not receive any notifications warning me of the changes on my account. They must have increased my daily limits in order to send the large amounts from my account.
The Monday I called an Ashwin at *** and he gave me a reference number Ref ***3 and referred me to Olivia ***. From 4/11/2019 to 6 December 2019, various emails were exchanged between Olivia and myself. She gave me a case number Case 2019 K 1117, and she informed me she would prioritize the case. On 6 December 2019, Olivia contacted and informed me she completed the investigated and transferred the case over to client services. Kindly refer to email trail below attached as separate documents. She informed me that a person by name of Lebogang would handle the case. Lebogang contacted me once and not again. I send her various emails with no responses received from her. amounts from my account.

On 23/12/2019, I contacted Nedbank again to speak with Olivia and they informed me by someone that a certain Katlego was now handling the case. Katlego’s phone number was *** who informed me that a Dion Brown their Head of ***** would contact me. Dion Brown called me and informed me he is going on leave and that a Mr. Jason Jordaan is now handling the case. Dion gave me his email address and informed me that the case is at legal. His email address is dionb@nedbank. I tried to call Dion on 7 January 2020 on his number *** and they informed me he was still on leave. Lebogang informed me that Dion is only coming back on 13 January 2020. Not long afterwards, I received an Email from Lebogang with a letter attached that they have close the case and that they cannot refund me. Lindy Botha, the Head of the Legal department signed the letter. I called Caroline, and it surprised her she did not receive any notification from them. I asked Caroline to call Lindy Botha to discuss the matter. Lindy Botha requested me to submit all the information to her again. I made cases at the police. Case number 271/10/2019 was for the cell phone and case number 24/11/2019 was for the *****. I did not receive any information from them to date.
I have the following questions and concerns regarding the above: 1. If Pick n Pay knew that a gang *****ing people’s possessions was operating from their premises, why did they not report it to the police? After viewing the footage, why did Pick n Pay management not handed the information over to the police to investigate, as I was not the only victim of crime within their store? 2. How did the ********* get access to the banking app on the phone with no password? Nedbank and all the other banks force their clients to make use of apps but they do not inform us that ********* can gain access to your accounts by just *****ing your phone. How it was possible to get access after the phone and they blocked the sim card? 3. There is no excuse from Nedbank that the Branch Manager could not contact their ***** Department, which should be accessible 24/7. I could only reach them on the Monday. 4. There is no excuse from the Nedbank ***** department not to contact Capitec Bank to inform them that one of their clients de*****ed one of their clients. There is legislation that all banks must perform a check on their clients (KYC) before they open an account. 5. If Nedbank ***** department was reached when they stopped my profile and immediately contacted Capitec then I would not have lost all this money.
In conclusion, I would like to state that both the ***** department at Nedbank and the police were not interested in assisting to get the ****** funds back. Several of the emails to the ***** department were unanswered, and no explanation forwarded to me regarding the reasons for their decision. The inability of Nedbank to contact a vital department could have prevented the loss of all the ****** money. The ***** department’s inability and lack of an effort to assist one of their long-standing and loyal customers of 44 years resulted in a total loss of the money ****** from our accounts. loss of all the ****** money.
