EXTENSION OF TERM - HOME LOAN
On the 31st of December 2018 I went on retirement therefore in order to avoid situations whereby I find myself struggling to pay my home loan with Nedbank I decided to inform them accordingly and make other arrangements regarding my monthly installment. On the 8th of January I went to my Nedbank branch which is Maponya Mall. I was assigned to a consultant who helped me. I told him that I would like to extend the term of my bond so that my installment can be reduced accordingly seeing that I was not going to afford it as it is currently because I would now be getting an annuity monthly but obviously it will be lower than the salary I use to get. We played around with the numbers until we got to a figure that I said I would afford. He created an online application for me, this had all the details like when will the new term end and how much my installment would be. We both signed this and he contacted Nedbank home loans dept they discussed it and he advised them that he he now sending the quote to them. In my mind all was handled properly and was in order. However I was called in again to come and sign an application form which would normally be signed by somebody applying for a new bond, nevertheless I went through and completed the form which was also send to their home-loan dept. I had nothing thereafter until yesterday when I realized that my old installment amount had been debited accordingly no reduction was done as per the documents I have in my possession. I then called I was on the phone with Nedbank home loans for literally 2 hours after which I was advised that Maponya Mall had it all wrong they were not supposed to say it was a restructure they were supposed to tell them (home-loans) that I have retired. Finally after 2 and half hours on the phone I was advised that they will contact Maponya Mall and come back to me, this did not happen, instead the gentleman I had dealt with @ Maponya Mall called me around 4:55 to say he missed a call from home - loans regarding my application and wanted to know from me what this was all about. I gave him all the details and we hung up. Today about an hour ago I again pick up the phone and call them and of course I wait to get the right person for almost an hour again, eventually he comes through and asks for my story and I go on repeating myself again. He asked me to give him time whilst he contacts Maponya Mall and will come back to me. He came back to me @ about 3:50 and advised that he could not get the gentleman I dealt with initially @ Maponya Mall and asked me if its OK that he comes back to me on Monday. I must say he was the most polite gentleman and understanding and I could feel that he understood where I was coming from and was willing to assist me in any way he can. His name is Michael Seobi even the one at Maponya mall did what he was supposed to but nobody from home-loans came back to me until I had to call the. 1 - I am taking accountability for my debt and making arrangements which are doable, acceptable, appropriate instead of waiting until the situation gets out of hand. 2- I am going to get an annuity every month and because most of my debt will have been cleared the annuity will cover my reduced bond installment. So what is the issue? 3- I did not ask to retire at this age, it is my previous,s company,s policy therefore it was my time to go. 4- Are pensioners not supposed to own property? 5 - As previously disadvantaged black people, we were not allowed to buy property hence most of us my age find ourselves paying mortgage bonds even when we are on retirement because we started late. We never asked for this segregation but it is what it is and we are making the the best out of it. 6 - Is Nedbank saying they do not accommodate pensioners? I am truly not sure what Nedbank were thinking when they granted me this bond at the age where I was at. Didn,t they think that this could go even before retirement? What then. I cannot and will not loose my home when I am coming forth and making new arrangements. Of course is along the way I get some other income I will pay more as and when so that I can finish this sooner. Can Nedbank please advise.
