Disappointed with Nedbank House insurance- C***/C***

Last Tuesday- 21 June-, I got accosted outside my front door on my way to work. Upon arriving at home that evening, i opened my gate to park my car. Once inside, i immediately closed the gate and the gate refused to close. It was stuck wide open. After what had transpired that morning, this was a huge concern and my husband the neighbour guy tried to close it and put it on manual but it was a very difficult task. i have a call on my vodacom contract that shows that i tried to dial Nedbank that same night. I was advised that it is after business hours and i must call back the next day. The police were at my house and this can be verified that someone entered my yard. Because i screamed and ran, the burglar ran away, nothing was taken. I went to the Douglasdale Police station to open a case but i was advised that it cannot be done as he didnt ***** anything and he was not caught. All the neighbours were also there and plenty of verification letters can be given to Nedbank. My first thought was that the burglars tried to do something with our gate motor that caused it to jam and remain open as we were at work and they could have been planning to come back.Upon advising Nedbank on the 22 June, until today, we have been given the run around for this claim. Yes, we HAD to get someone to assist us to close the gate. With a burglar who was in our yard earlier, did Nedbank really expect us to sleep and go to work with our driveway gates WIDE OPEN????!!! Nedbank takes AGES to resolve claims. We claimed for our electric fence as well, when we realised that it was not working properly, hence the burglar got into our yard! It only got fixed TODAY- ONE whole week later. Where we were supposed to WAIT with an open gate and be afraid for our lives for ONE whole week????!!! Would that have made Nedbank then APPROVE the claim as i was just told that it was now declined???!!! The gate is of utmost importance and i didnt think it was necessary to tell Nedbank my whole personal drama over the phone when i logged the claim. Even now, we still live in fear after what happened and the shock has yet to go away, but at least they sorted our our fence. Will Nedbank have some compassion really?? Nedbank called the guy that helped us but he himself didnt know and could just be making assumptions and Nedbank takes a strangers word for it, and not people who have paid their bond and insurance every month and have only ever claimed for a geyser and our fence previously! Do we pay insurance for what? To get turned down????

I would like to say that although it took Nedbank 6 weeks to finally approve my claim- from the client services department itself, I received outstanding service from the lady at the Hello Peter department- Merilynn Peters. She always ensured that she called me to inform me of the status of my claim. Thank you and keep it up Merilynn!
