Declined Debit Card!

Collected my new debit card from Nedbank Newmarket in July and was informed when I asked why they were not confirming my pin that it was no longer necessary. "New technology" and it would be the same as my previous card pin number. On the 1st August I filled my car with petrol and my debit card was declined as "not authorised". I had no cash on me. On phoning the customer service line I was informed that I will have to go into the branch and confirm my pin or pay Nedbank R175 and they would deliver a new card with a pin of their choice. I am at a loss to see why I should run to them to sort out what is clearly their error.

To rectify the problem about which this complaint was posted, I personally had to go into the Nedbank branch in Alberton and have the pins on my cards verified and updated. Besides phoning me, the only other thing Nedbank did for me was send my American Express card to my home with a personal banker. According to the covering letter with my card this is a service provided free of charge to all Greenback customers. So really what did Nedbank do for me?
