Complaint Against Nedbank - Incorrect Personal Information Shared
I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with Nedbank regarding what appears to be the sharing of incorrect personal information about me, and their failure to adequately address this serious matter. I have discovered that my colleague's phone number has somehow been listed or shared as my contact number. My colleague is now receiving calls from verious service providers asking for me by name. This suggests that incorrect information about me has been provided to third parties. I never provided my colleague's number as my own contact information to Nedbank, nor did I authorize anyone to share my colleague's number in connection with my personal details. This situation has caused significant distress and embarrassment for both myself and my colleague. My colleague should not be receiving calls intended for me, and this mix-up raises serious concerns about how my personal information is being handled and what other incorrect details may have been shared. The fact that third parties have been given this wrong information is deeply troubling and suggests a failure in Nedbank's data management processes. Despite my attempts to raise this issue with Nedbank, I have not received a satisfactory response or resolution. I have not been provided with a clear explanation of how this error occurred, what steps are being taken to correct it, or how Nedbank plans to prevent similar issues in the future. The lack of urgency and accountability in addressing this matter has been disappointing and frustrating. I would like Nedbank to urgently investigate how my colleague's number came to be associated with my personal information and shared with third parties. I need written confirmation that the correct information has been updated in all relevant systems and that other third parties who received the incorrect information have been notified of the error. I also expect an explanation of what went wrong and assurance that proper data verification processes will be followed going forward to prevent such mistakes. This situation may constitute a breach of my rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), as it involves the sharing of inaccurate personal information which has caused harm to both myself and an innocent third party. Nedbank has a legal responsibility to ensure that any personal information they hold and share is accurate and up to date. I am considering escalating this matter to the Information Regulator of South Africa if a satisfactory resolution is not provided promptly. I hope that Nedbank will take this matter seriously and act swiftly to resolve it. Based on this experience, I have serious concerns about recommending Nedbank to others who expect their bank to handle their personal information accurately and responsibly.
