Collapsed ceiling board - Claim rejected
About 2 weeks ago, we made a startling discovery that our lounge ceiling was slowly collapsing. Initially, upon purchasing the home 2 years ago, we assumed it was the polystyrene ceiling tiles that were coming loose as they were glued to the ceiling boards.
After logging a claim and having both the appointed contractor's assessor as well as Nedbank's independently appointed assessor, agreeing that the ceiling's collapse was due to old age and not storm damage, Nedbank rejected the claim that it was not storm related or "No insured peril could be assessed."
Upon logging the initial claim, at no point did I ever say or allude to that the damage was storm related. Since the home is about 40 yrs old and the damage was, as per both aforementioned assessors, are due to : "The collapsing of ceiling board and de-bonding of decorative tiles fitted to the ceiling board is due to wear and tear, gradual deterioration over time. No insured peril could be assessed."
Having said that, we are left disappointed and will be engage alternate service providers in the new year. As the home is 40 yrs old, who knows what other future claims will rejected.
Sincerely loyal clients for over 20 yrs.
