Close personal bank account

I wanted to close my personal bank account however upon calling their call centre I am being pushed from pillar to post. I hold the toll free line for at least 1h45 minutes. I called their contact centre ***. Instead my personal bank account is now incurring unnecessary bank charges which will make it expensive to close it
