Claim we are in arrears on our bond

We have an access bond with Nedbank, with the monthly payments automatically paid from our current account. The bond has been running since 2010.

Out of the blue a few months ago I get an SMS saying I am in arrears on the account. However, the online statement shows that there is money available to be drawn. When I query this, I am told that I made a withdrawal of R8000 rand a few weeks prior.

When I dispute this, I get told that I had been drawing off excess from the access bond in between my monthly payment, and the automated interest deduction a few days later. As a result I had overdrawn the account and attracted penalty interest.

I show that only one such withdrawal took place, for about R1000, and it could not possibly have attracted R8000 interest. Then I am told that actually, there was an automated recalculation of the account (6 years into its operation?!?) and that it turns out I had been underpaying all this time or something.

I ask to see a full statement of the account, from inception, so that I can verify the calculations. This was 8 weeks ago and nothing is forthcoming, other than lawyers letters, and a refusal to let me sell my property until the arrears is settled.

I will happily pay if there is an outstanding amount - but between the lies and obfuscation and refusal to show me the full account history I think I am being *****ed.

Thanks, I'll believe it when I see it. My wife has been dealing with an account manager at the branch for 3 months now and he is as frustrated as we are.
