CHECK THAT YOU AREN'T OWED MONEY WHEN CLOSING A CC ACCOUNT

This is a long story but please, if you have an account you've closed - make sure you aren't owed money because it's shocking what these banks get away with.

I wanted to close my Nedbank Credit card account and was informed by an agent the exact amount I needed to pay for them to close the account - I paid this amount AND thankfully checked my banking app to ensure it reflected only to discover that I had overpaid. I wanted to find out if this was indeed a credit that would be owed/paid back to me so on the app I queried this through the chat service. AGENT 1: Basically informed me that if there was indeed a credit someone would be in touch to arrange payment. No one contacted me. AGENT 2: Made it seem like I wasn't owed anything and then said they would send me a closing statement (not just the closing letter which I had received) and I asked that the agent who closed the account contact me because I still had a feeling I was owed money No one contacted me. AGENT 3: I followed up AGAIN because no one was bothering to get back to me, again the agent I spoke to made it seem I wasn't owed anything and that that 'credit' I saw was for bank fees or something. They eventually sent me the closing statement which honestly did not show anything substantial and it still didn't sit well with me.

Thankfully I sent an email to their complaints department because even if I wasn't owed money I just couldn't believe that I had a case number and everything but I had to keep following up with them.

Someone called me today from the complaints department and after hearing my long story told me that I WAS infact owed money - and the amount was more than I had suspected - she then proceed to tell me that it is not Nedbanks responsibility to contact clients after their accounts have been closed to say "You overpaid and we owe you money" meaning they are perfectly happy to just keep that money and not inform you. YET when you owe them a payment they are happy to call, sms and ensure you pay them. THUS I am wondering, how much money is Nedbank holding onto after accounts have been closed and fail to notify their customers? Even if it is a small amount, this must add up eventually. Then I pointed out to the complaints agent that I HAD been following up and asking that I be reimbursed but I was being ignored? So again, how will customers then know for sure that they aren't owed money. I am really glad I did not let this go, we pay so much in bank fees and then they are happy to just not inform you when they owe you money.
