Beware Nedbank ATM's
In 2007 I went to the Nedbank ATM in Somerset West to draw some money. Some ********s had inserted a device into the ATM that read my card and withdrew a substantial amount of money from my account. Now an ex-handyman of mine, living on the breadline in Lwandle, had a good amount of money deposited into a Capitec account after some excellent work for someone. As there is no Capitec ATM in Lwandle, the norm is to use a Nedbank ATM at the BP petrol station in Heritage Park, just off the N2, to obtain money. However, the ATM had evidently been tampered with by ********s, and most of his hard-earned money was ******. What astounds me is that this is a repetition of an event I experienced 18 years before. Hadn’t Nedbank learned to detect and prevent the intrusion of any foreign device electronically into their ATM’s. Tells you something about the IT section of Nedbank! When we reported the theft at the Police Station in Somerset West we were told that this is a common occurrence in the area.
