Be aware of what you are getting into with Nedbank Insurance for your property
Do not take out Nedbank Insurance for your property.
The service is aweful and they will reject any claim. I logged a claim on the 20th of April after the massive storms we had in Cape Town, where my boundary wall fell over due to a retaining wall blowing out as a result of the amount of rain we had over a very small amount of time.
I thought it would be a simple matter as I have logged many outsurance claims and its usually resolved within a week.
Well not with Nedbank insurance who still operate with zero online channels, you cant even email them as they do not respond, so you have to result in calling their call center who tries to put you through to your "personal" claim manager unsuccesfully day after day.
An assesor was assigned to assess the damages and provide evidence for the claim, but they never showed and after 2 weeks I still could not get a status update.
I tried to get hold of my personal claim manager TLHOLOGELO LEGODI for over a week, phoneing the call center every day with no success, I tried escilating the matter to his manager unsuccesfully and at one point I told the person at the call center that I did not know what to do anymore as I cant get hold of anyone who can help me with my claim.
They told me that they would try to escilate the matter and get a new "personal" claims manager to help me.
Thanks to a heroic effort from one of the call center guys, which must of been a one in a million chance to get hold of this particular guy one day, I actually found out thet my claims manager TLHOLOGELO LEGODI was sick for a week and booked off and someone else would give me a call.
They did call me and gave me the assors details, which I needed to call myself and then the assesor let me know that they rejected the nedbank callout as they were not near my area and did not operate in my area.
I phoned nedbank back - call center nightmares again - and explain to them that the assesor they assigned rejected their call out and then they saw on their system - "oh that is the case, we see now" - so they assigned a new assesor to me.
2 weeks go bye again and no show' I eventually phone nedbank back again and get the new assesor's number and arranged a time for when they can come through. The did the assesment and then told me that the need to get a anouther assesor in as its a little more complicated than they are used to dealing with.
At this point I am done with the whole matter it has been 1 and a half months now.
2 months latter I get a phone call from nedbank saying my claim has been rejected because the damages were as a result of roots pushing out the retaining wall, not the storm. - I tell my claims manager TLHOLOGELO LEGODI who is not back from sick leave that I am under the impression that anouther assesor needs to come look at the damages as the previous assesor told me. But TLHOLOGELO LEGODI assures me that the internal nedbank assesors had a look, (who have not been to my house by the way) as rejected the claim.
I tried explaining to him the situation but he just says if I want to log a dispute I should put it in writing.
I then told him that I am very disapointed with the outcome and would like to cancel my insurance with nedbank and switch to a new provider and he mentioned that I should then put that in writing to.
I am at a loss for words for how a company can still operate with no online channels in 2026. I am afaird I will need to call that call center again for my cancelation request and I am worried how long this process will take.
Please be very aware of what you are getting into when you take out Nedbank Insurance.
