Bad suppliers from a Nedbank insurance claim - damages to my private belongings
Subject: Formal Complaint – Ongoing Delays, Poor Workmanship, and Inconvenience Caused by Appointed Service Providers
I wish to formally raise my dissatisfaction with the handling of my homeowners’ insurance claims and the significant inconvenience I have experienced as a result of poor workmanship, lack of communication, and ongoing delays.
On 26 November 2025, during a severe storm with hailstones, my property sustained damage to the roof, ceiling, and electrical system. I submitted a claim to Nedbank Homeowners Insurance, after which Manduko Constructions was appointed to attend to the repairs. Unfortunately, their work was incomplete and inadequate. Only a few roof tiles were replaced, and the water-damaged ceiling was merely painted over instead of being properly repaired.
A separate electrical service provider was appointed by Nedbank to assess the electrical damage; however, after the initial visit, I received no further communication and no repairs were carried out. As a result, the electricity supply to my bathroom and bedroom has remained non-functional due to water damage, causing ongoing inconvenience. I contacted Nedbank via email to request clarity on which service providers were expected to return and what work would be done so that I could manage access accordingly. Despite this, no response or communication was received.
Subsequently, my geyser burst, flooding both my bathroom and TV room. I submitted a second claim to Nedbank Homeowners Insurance, and Plumbing by Banaero was appointed to resolve the issue. On 15 December 2025, they attended to the geyser, repaired a pipe, and confirmed that the geyser was in working order.
However, on 16 December 2025, the geyser failed again, resulting in further flooding of my TV room and bathroom. I contacted the plumbing company immediately. They acknowledged fault and confirmed that their insurance would cover the damages incurred, including two televisions (55-inch and 35-inch), a PlayStation 5, and a black cupboard, all of which were taken by them.
On 17 December 2025, the water continued to leak. Upon contacting the company again, the owner, Whittie, called me and behaved in an extremely unprofessional manner, shouting at me despite the issues being caused by their faulty workmanship.
As matters currently stand, I am dealing with:
A sagging and damaged ceiling
No electricity in my bathroom and bedroom
Ongoing water damage
Loss of household appliances and personal property
Continued stress and inconvenience
Despite these circumstances, I have been informed that Nedbank requires me to pay another excess and submit yet another claim for damages caused by appointed service providers. This includes damages to my ceiling, lights, fans, televisions, PlayStation, and other household items.
The overall handling of these claims has caused significant distress, disruption to my daily living, and financial burden. I request urgent intervention, clear communication, and accountability from all parties involved to resolve these matters without further delay.
