Bad Service and Contravening rights of NCA
I have a Nedbank personal loan, and was sent through to NRR..which is Nedbank Retail Recoveries, and have been paying loyally for 3 plus years.I recently defaulted in June,as I was no longer working.I received money from somewhere which they immediately debited with R2400 which firstly is more than agreed instalment amount, secondly we wee still in the month that i owed them. When i called in to their call offices,i was told that when I had defaulted on an arrangement they as Nedbank, then had the right to debit my account with whatever amount they please from your account without warning. My account was about to go into default again for july and i advised one of their staff that i wasn't working and therefore income was not coming in and if i could make provision for this,i was told i had to wait for account to go in default and then only call to make an arrangement, which i believe is totally absurd,as being proactive and disclosing your financial crisis in advance should be helpful. Now in August,i called them to arrange for payments to take place from now,as I had found a job.I also asked the lady to provide me a settlement amount, which according to her was R14 037.92 which I advised I would think about settling as quote remains valid for 7 days.I told her to debit which account and on what date.On 18th,which is same day i made call to make arrangement,my account was debited for R17 547.40 all at once. This morning my account was further debited for R2000.When I called in once again,i was told that if i default on account ,Nedbank has right to debit account with whatever amount that they please. R17 547.40 which a portion is supposed to towards my child's school fees is a lot of money for someone to debit off your account without arrangements,or warning, after i had proactively called in to sort out my default.I am appalled at service Nedbank provides and disgusted at the underhanded tactics they use. Doesn't NCA and CPA protect us from such kind of things? You are not to be forced by creditor to pay an amount you cannot afford to pay? Is a creditor allowed to debit funds from a persons accounts..as and when they please? I have worked with many creditors but this is by far the worst service and most outrageous explanation that i have ever heard. Funny enough,I have other accounts with Nedbank and have never experienced such.
This is absolutely appalling. You are no better than a ***** robbing a person at gunpoint. This is plain disgusting and embarrasing to even think that the bank does this to its own employees/ex-employees!!!!!!!
