Assistance with Making a Payment Arrangement

I took out a personal loan in 2015 and I have been paying well. My husband was paying a portion toward the loan as it was consolidated from a previous loan. In November 2015, my husband had a severe back op and he is going to be boarded so finances are going to be tight going forward. I would like find out how I can go about making a fixed arrangement with the bank to avoid bad debt. I felt that Larry, the consultant didn't have any compassion for my situation and that he was not making any concessions. He said there is no way for me to make an ongoing payment arrangement and that I have to call in every 3 months, but that I would still be in arrears. Surely the bank should consider people in my situation? It is not my fault that my husband has landed up in this situation!! I can't keep on calling the bank because my situation is not going to change in the next year / two!! Please can I get some answers asap!!
