Able to assist an identity ***** promptly by all means; unable to assist the identity's owner

On the 19th of September 2016, I learnt from my TransUnion consumer credit report that 'I' had taken out a R21,197.00 loan with Nedbank on the 13th of September 2016. I immediately contacted Nedbank's contact centre from which I was transferred to the personal loans directory. I spoke to a lady who confirmed that indeed there is a R21,197.00 loan under my name; that the loan was taken from a Cashbuild store in Ontdekkers, Roodepoort. I left work for the nearest Neebank branch in the hope that i would get some explanation of how it was even possible for this loan to have been approved without my consent. I got to the Rustenburg Square branch and was directed to a telephone, where I was to call the same personal loans contact centre and query about the loan. When I got through, I explained my case to the consultant and she gave me a ***** line to call. I called this ***** line several times with no success of reaching any consultant, the phone would ring and then just go silent. With great confusion and frustration, I insisted on talking to one of the consultants at the branch. I was assisted by Tshepo, his surname starts with an 'M'. He called the personal loans contact center again and explained my case, he was told the same thing I was told. We then tried calling the ***** line and we could not reach anyone.

Tshepo and a female colleague of his now were both assisting me. They called the Ontdekkers Cashbuild and asked to speak to the Nedbank loans consultant there, Seipati Ndaba, they were told she was not at work. They then asked to speak to the manager. The mangager had confirmed that the 'loaned' material had not yet been collected by the ********* and had agreed that the material would not be released when the ********* came to collect it. The manager also assured that the loan will be reversed once Seipati Ndaba was available. The two Nedbank consultants then took my contact details and assured that they would follow up as there es nothing I or they could do at that stage. I asked about opening a case with the SAPS or getting an affidavit. I was advised not to worry, that if the material is not released ten there really is no debt. That made sense.

Tshepo called me on the Friday (14 September 2016) and the next Tuesday (20 September 2016), informing me that indeed the material was not released and that the loan will be reversed before I would have to make the first payment in October around the 22nd. I went to the branch again on the 23rd of September 2016 to apply to purchase Zakhele Futhi shares. I conversed with Tshepo and he assured me of the same thing he had called twice before to tell me.

A Kefiloe Tlhomedi from Cashbuild Ontdekkers had contacted me on the 19th of September 2016, requesting my ID copy as well as an affidavit affirming that I have never app**** for a loan with Nedbank nor Cashbuild; that I do not know Seipati Ndaba and how/where/who she got my particulars for a loan application; that i habe never been at Cashbuild Ontdekkers. I got the affidavit that same afternoon and sent it to Kefiloe the next morning. During our telephonic conversation on the 19th, Kefiloe had told me that the ********* applicant was a bit suspicious, that is why her application took a while to be approved. She assured me that the material was not released and that the loan was being reversed as far as she knew.

i called Cashbuild Ontdekkers several times asking to speak to Seipati, she was unavailable on most occasions. The first time I was hle to reach her, I explained to her that a loan had been taken **********ly under my name and that I understood that she was the one assisting the ********* to apply for it. She told me that the 'Permla' she assisted provided all the required documents in their original form; this puzzled me. I still have my ID, my license and I have never lost them. She told me she did not know what to do or say to help me but that this was being investigated and out of her hands. She told me to wait until this investigation was concluded before deciding to do anything. She really was not willing to give me any further information from there. The second time i was able to reach her she told me the same thing; that an investigation was being carried out and that we still wait. The final attempt to call her was today, 12th October 2016. I checked my credit report this morning and realized that the loan was very much still there, that it had not been reversed. I immediately decided to go to the Cashbuild and speak to this Seipati and management in person as telephonic communication clearly was not getting me anywhere.

When I got there, Seipati was unavailable. I was however able to speak to management who advised me that there was nothing they could do from their side because they did keep their word of reversing the material; she was even surprised that the loan had not been reversed. She called Seipati and let me speak to her. I asked her how the loan is still there if the material has not been released and she told me she needed to speak to her manager first and that she will call back shortly. I remained on the store, waiting for Seipati's call. When she finally called back on one of the landlines, she asked me if I filled in ***** forms when I was at the Rustenburg branch. No one advised me to do so, I do not do that. Why was she only asking now about these forms after telling me to "wait for the investigation to be concluded before deciding to do anything" for so long? She told me that she should not even be communicating with me. She said she really did not know what to say to me.

I then went to the Nedbank branch in Westgate and was directed straight to the telephone to speak to one of the personal loans consultants. I spoke to Faeeza. She confirmed that the loan was still there. It was only TODAY, AFTER SO LONG, that I was informed to submit several documents for the investigation to be initiated. After so long. Why wasn't anybody from the Rustenburg branch able to tell me this? Or make me fill in those ***** forms? Why wasn't Seipati able to advise me about this? Why wasn't any of the Personal consultants I was speaking to while at the Rustenburg branch able to inform me? Why only now? I then asked what the implications of only starting the investigation now were, if I would be liable to repay the loan while the investigation was being carried out. She told me the investigation usually takes about 90 working days and during this period, installments may be debited. What puzzlement also, is what incestigation Seipati had been talking about if o did not submit the relevant required docunents. Also, if I may repay the loan during this investigation, what would I be paying back? The material was never issued out from Cashbuild. Money was never given to me nor the *********. So what exactly would I be paying back?

It is either the Nedbank staff is *********** or have been stalling just so I pay Nedbank this R21,000.00 plus. The fact that the loan was able to be processed and approved when the actual person [or 'applicant'] knew nothing about this is another story. I do not even want to think about what would have happened had I not checked my credit report.

Your prompt assistance will be highly appreciated.
