Naked Insurance makes it impossible to process a legitimate claim

Naked Insurance seems determined to frustrate customers into withdrawing legitimate claims. Here’s my experience:

While driving on the R37, something — most likely a bird — hit my car. No other vehicles or people were involved. The object hit the fixed portion of my glass sunroof and left a small crack, which has since started to spread.

I live in Johannesburg, which is over 300km away from where the incident occurred.

Despite this, the consultant at Naked Insurance insisted that I go to any police station to obtain a police report so that they can “verify” what happened. I was told this is required to process the claim.

But verify what, exactly? How is a police officer in Johannesburg supposed to confirm that a bird flew into my car on a remote road in another province, several days ago?

What exactly am I expected to report? “Dear SAPS, a bird hit my car”?

This is not only impractical — it’s absurd. And it feels like a deliberate attempt to place obstacles in the path of a valid claim. Is Hollard Insurance really comfortable being associated with this claims process?
