Insurance

I took out insurance for my iPhone 11 in May of this year.

On 6 October 2024, my phone fell out of my hand onto the ground cracking the screen. To my observation, my front camera was not broken, just had a crack running through it on the screen.

I immediately submitted a claim to get it fixed and I spoke to one of the consultants who was very assuring and answered all of the questions I had.

The claim was approved, and I was informed that the battery needed to be repaired as well. and if that were to happen, I would need to pay an excess amount of R3000.00. I told them that I did not want to have the battery fixed, only the screen.

I enquired about how much the screen would cost to repair, I was told that it would cost R4199.00, and that Naked Insurance would cover the entire amount - I have emails to prove this.

My device was collected and delivered to the repair center and all was well. I was shocked to receive a payment request from Platinum Repairs for an excess amount of R3000.00.

One question I had was why I was now supposed to pay R3000.00 for a claim if I pay insurance on a monthly basis and the total cost of the repairs is R4199.00 and insurance was going to pay the entire amount.

I'm so appalled by the flat R3000.00 I'm supposed to cough up because it’s not as if I lost my phone, if I pay 90% of the repairs, what is the point of having insurance?? I have also shopped around and looked at the repair prices and the highest is R4000.00. Dealing with them has been an absolute nightmare. I still do not have my phone back and they keep insisting I pay R3000.00 excess.
