Arrears

I just found out. I was with NAKED insurance. In September, due to financial issues, I couldn't pay my premiums. Ive been a driver for the past 15 years, and I know that no premiums, no cover. Apparently I owe NAKED for the September premium, and it will stay in my profile for life. Should I want to join them in the future, I will have to settle the outstanding premium first. I've never had to give notice to cancel insurance before; if I change, is this even legal?

Hi Nelisiwe,

We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to learn about your dissatisfaction. We understand how frustrating it can be to receive communication regarding the cancellation of your cover due non-payment.

Kindly note that we only cancel your cover after plenty of warning via email. We also provide our customers with a 30-day grace period when there is a payment irregularity and our system will continue to try (as it is still entirely automated) and process the payment and inform you when.

One of our team members had reached out to you regarding this matter on the day of cancellation to explain why your cover was cancelled and noted that we are able to reinstate cover within 48 hours of cancellation should you settle this outstanding balance. You were also notified that you would need to notify us once you have you settled this so that we were able reinstate your cover on your behalf before the 48 hours lapses.

One of our team members will reach out to you in order to provide clarification regarding this matter.

My issue is you went on the 1st to debit and there was no money. As far as I know and my understanding of insurance is that insurance is not credit and its a month to month service, so why do I owe for September? For argument sake, had anything happened to the insured vehicle in September, would you have covered it as per normal? When I saw the notice for cancellation, I asked if I could continue with the insurance. I was told that I needed to settle September first before I reinstated my cover; I did not have money to pay in September, and in October I am expected to pay double. NAKED insurance did not give me any credit that I'm in arrears for.
