Cancelled booking - untimely notification

<p>As a family, we experienced a very inconvenient and terrible end to our Easter weekend which we had spent together after looking forward for months. We had booked my sister's flights out of Bloemfontein to OR Tambo and so she was scheduled to fly back to Bloem on Monday the 17th of April. Huge was our disappointment and consternation when we were told upon booking in that the flight were cancelled over the weekend and that we should have been contacted by the travel agency we had used. Also, at that time, the next flight were already fully booked. One way tickets now cost around R2000 and CemAir couldn't refund except for scheduling a flight in it's place.</p> <p> </p> <p>In retrospect, I remember seeing a missed call on my phone on Saturday evening, but no messages were left and as a result I didn't deem it as urgent. Secondly, if not for this fiasco, I wouldn't have checked my emails before Thrusday morning after the weekend were over, because that is what people do over long weekends - unplug and spend time with families. Therefore I find MyTrip's attempt to contact me so untimely on the Saturday before the Monday flight UTTERLY feeble. One attempt to a phone call with no messages left in combination with an email notifying me of the change over a long weekend is, to say the least, ridiculous.</p> <p> </p> <p>My sister had to be back in Bloemfontein for work the following day, and therefore we were left with no other option than to drive her back to Bloemfontein from OR Tambo. As a result, we lost the money we spent on the ticket, had to drive nearly a 1000km which we hadn't bargained time for nor budgeted for and were in the position we wanted to avoid in the first place - taking the risk of being on the roads on Easter weekend.</p> <p> <br />I am truly and deeply disappointed. I feel that the least that the company could do, is refund me for the ticket in cash, even though the refund, amends for the petrol we had to buy, lunch on the road and compensation for our time would have been much more fair.</p>
