A Cautionary Tale for Travellers Considering 'My Trip' - Unfortunate Experience and Monetary Loss
To all potential travellers considering using 'My Trip,' I strongly urge you to reconsider. I recently faced a calamitous return journey from Cartagena due to poor advice and mismanagement by the company.
I'm not one to underestimate the complexities of international travel. Understanding the unpredictability, I contacted 'My Trip' twice before my trip to ensure that our tight connecting flight home would not be a problem. We were reassured—incorrectly, it turns out—that there would be no issues.
Our initial flight took off 10 minutes late, and upon landing, we waited an additional 20 minutes on the tarmac due to customs delays. The customs line was incredibly long, and the process was even more laborious because my husband and I are foreign nationals. After sprinting through the airport, we found that the check-in for our connecting flight was already closed.
What made this experience particularly gruelling was the additional stress of finding last-minute childcare for our child left at home and explaining unexpected absences to our employers.
What I want is fairness. Following the advice of 'My Trip' staff cost us an additional $2000. Is it reasonable that we had to spend a huge amount of money because of erroneous advice from people who were supposed to be experts? I don't think so.
I've been contacting 'My Trip' to review this unfortunate incident, including the multiple calls made before, during, and after our trip. While I understand it's their job to avoid reimbursing additional costs, the travel insurance we paid for should cover this.
I hope this account serves as a cautionary tale. If you don't want to add financial stress to the natural unpredictability of travel, think twice before booking with 'My Trip.'
