USELESS INTERNET NO-SERVICE PROVIDER

Imagine being told your mailbox has been upgraded for free, and with it, comes a 3TB limit (no longer 2TB)! So exciting! You check to make sure you stay in the limits. At 10 am today, you have an email saying your mailbox is 91% full. At 14:00 you get a mail to say LIMIT EXCEEDED your mailbox is 125% full! You try to 'chat to an (invisible) agent' on the website. You're holding on, calling MWEB while listening to wrist-slitting music. You are 'caller number 11' in the queue at 14:00. You keep holding because you're desperate. You resort to the whatsapp line. You start calling them USELESS. After ONE HOUR an individual comes online to say 'CECILE you're through to the wrong department. You should have chosen HOSTING. I'll put you through and MIND YOUR LANGUAGE.' Of course the nameless faceless keyboard warrior doesn't say who they are. You keep waiting for the 'hosting' individual to appear. No luck, 2 hours later. After wasting 1h59 minutes and 59 secs of holding on and being lucky caller 3 in line, (is MWEB THAT bad at solving problems that they can only deal with EIGHT people in 2 hours' time?? I guess so!) THEN YOUR CALL GETS CUT! After being with the predecessors of MWEB for over 20 years (Global.co.za, Tiscali, then unfortunately MWEB) I've had around 400 spam emails over the past month which apparently was being 'looked into' (they're still rolling in). I've been stabbed in the back by a company that decides to cut my mailbox size by 30% in seconds without notifying me, and there is ZERO support. So let this be a warning to internet deal hunters. Don't say you weren't warned!

Good morning, Cecile,

We understand how frustrating this must be, especially when your mailbox is full and you’re also dealing with ongoing spam emails. It’s completely understandable that this would disrupt your ability to use your email effectively and add to the inconvenience.

To create additional space, you can delete emails via our online email platform here: https://www.mweb.co.za/webmail. Please note that space will only be freed up once the deleted emails are also removed from your Deleted Items folder.

Our spam monitoring system has recently been updated and now improves its detection by learning from messages that customers move to their Junk or Spam folders. To help strengthen this filtering, we recommend moving any suspicious or unwanted emails to your Junk folder rather than deleting them, as this helps the system identify and block similar messages going forward.

If the spam emails continue despite this, we recommend reaching out to our Abuse & Security Team at *** so they can investigate and support you further.

Should you need any additional help, please feel free to send us a direct message on Hello Peter and we’ll be happy to assist.

Kind regards,
Mweb Team

Best regards,

Mweb

Reviewer Update
I wanted to edit my original review but can't. I meant 2GB and 3GB, not 2TB and 3TB. And now on your fb page I've found someone with EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I'm gathering my facts so I can SHOW YOU that you DID upgrade our inboxes and then you DID reduce them back to 2GB yesterday! The other woman I'm talking to says her mailbox is SUDDENLY 136% FULL. So I am gathering my facts and I will be back.

Hi Cecile, we can see how frustrating this must be, especially when your mailbox suddenly appears full and you’re also dealing with ongoing spam emails. It’s completely understandable that this would raise concern, particularly if you’ve noticed changes in how your storage is displaying. To clarify, mailbox storage is not reduced manually or changed per individual account. In most cases like this, what appears as a sudden increase in usage is usually linked to emails accumulating in hidden folders such as Deleted Items or Sent Items, or the mailbox syncing differently across devices which can make usage look higher than expected. To help you get this under control quickly, please try the following:
  •  Check your Deleted Items folder and permanently clear it (this often holds a large amount of storage)
  •  Review your Sent Items folder and remove any large or old emails with attachments
  •  Log into webmail and check storage there directly, as this shows the most accurate usage breakdown
  •  If you use multiple devices (phone/laptop), refresh or re-sync your mailbox after cleaning up folders
For the spam emails, continue moving unwanted messages into the Junk/Spam folder rather than deleting them, as this helps the system learn and reduce similar emails going forward. If after doing this your mailbox still shows unusually high usage or continues to appear over capacity, let us know and we’ll guide you through a deeper cleanup step-by-step.Kind regards,
 Mweb Team
