Poor Client service by MWeb

<div>I subscribe to an MWeb 50mbs fibre line. Daily the speed drops to a range between 0.29 to 6.21 download speed and 0 to 3.33 upload speed. I have tried contacting Mweb on their Website and failed. I have tried on their number 087 *** ***7 where I am told "You are currently number 15 in line......". 15 minutes later I am number 13 in line. There is a four-letter word for this level of service from MWeb and this is *$#t Service. I had better service from Openserve!</div>

Hello  Alan. We understand how frustrating this experience has been, especially with severe speed drops on your 50Mbps fibre line and difficulty getting through to support. That’s not the level of service we aim to provide, particularly when your connection is essential for daily use. Let’s focus on stabilising your Openserve fibre performance. Here are some knowledgeable steps you can try to help identify and improve the issue:
  • Test via Ethernet (important first step)
Connect one device directly to your router using a LAN cable and run a speed test. This helps confirm whether the issue is WiFi-related or on the fibre line itself.
  • Restart both the ONT and the router
Power off both devices, wait 2–3 minutes, then switch on the ONT first, followed by the router. This refreshes the fibre session.
  • Check for congestion or background usage
Pause cloud backups, updates, streaming, or any devices that may be using bandwidth in the background.
  • Test at different times of day
Run speed tests morning, afternoon, and evening. Consistent drops may indicate a line or network-level fault that needs escalation.
  • WiFi optimisation
    •  Move closer to the router
    •  Switch between 2.4GHz (coverage) and 5GHz (speed)
    •  Avoid placing the router near thick walls or electronic interference
  • Try a different device for testing
This helps rule out device-specific limitations. Given the severity of the drops you’re experiencing, this may require a deeper line check from Openserve’s side. We’ve noted your concern around support access and will ensure this feedback is escalated internally as well. If the issue continues after these checks, we recommend reaching out to us via private message,  so we can run a full diagnostic and escalate the fault if needed.

Kind regards,
The Mweb Team

Best regards,

AC

Thank you for your response.
I will be creating a record of MWeb Download speeds across the day at random intervals and in particular when it is slow. I will then publish these on HelloPeter.

I suggest you check with your sub-contactor - Openserve - as this poor service occurs daily, around the same time, - on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

It is currently at 24.0 download and 21.8 upload! Time 15.19 Date 11 May 2026.

Hi Alan,
Thank you for the detailed update. We appreciate you taking the time to monitor and document this.
We’ve arranged for your line to be reset from our side, which helps eliminate any potential configuration or line‑level issues that may not be immediately detectable. This step is often effective in stabilising performance and ensuring the connection is optimised.
If the performance does not improve or you notice further issues, please feel free to send us a direct message on Hello Peter with any additional observations, and we’ll be happy to assist further.
Kind regards,
Mweb Team
