Not off to a good start

I decided to change from ISP so I contacted Mweb to get some more information about their fibre offerings. After I successfully canceled with my previous ISP I started my application with Mweb. On the 28th of December 2018 I was contacted and was told that my B number has been release by my previous ISP yet. So I waited until my B number was release by my previous ISP and I contacted them again on the 10th of January 2019. The operator told me that the people working with my request has left already and that they only work from 8 to 5. He asked me if it will be okay if they phone me the next day at 10:00 I agreed and the next morning they phoned me and completed my application. I was told that my application can take up 14 working days.

Today (15 January 2019) I phoned the call centre to check the status of my order. I was told that my B number is no longer available and that my order is being canceled. The call centre agent asked if he can transfer me to someone to process a new order for me. Now its going to take another 7 to 14 working days to get a internet connection.

My question is if I didn't decide to contact them how would I have known my order was cancelled and that I need to apply for a new line.

If I knew that it would be such a hassle to change ISPs I would've stayed where I was.
