MWEB "Uncapped" Fibre is a ****!

I recently "upgraded" from 4MB uncapped ADSL to 10MB "uncapped" fibre on MWEB via Open Serve (Telkom). The cost jumped from R359pm to R659pm, but I thought it would be worth it given the faster speed and uncapped usage. Now, I knew going in there would be a fair usage policy, as there is with most (not all!) ISP's, but I was not expecting what came next...

Just 4 days into January 2018, I get an email notifying me that MWEB has had to slow me down because of excessive use. Perplexed, I logged into my MWEB account online, which took forever, and then up pops a screen with my total offensive data usage. Was it 1 or 2 TB? No! Just a meager 179GB. As was later confirmed by an MWEB agent, a 10MB uncapped fibre line gets you a whopping 175GB of fair use data per month. No wonder they choose not to publish their FUP. What's more, this is odd, since Telkom has a FUP of 900GB per month for 10MB, and does not Telkom also operate on Open Serve? Yes, they do, because Open Serve is Telkom. Hmmm...

And so here I am, throttled to less than 2MB, while MWEB deducts the full amount for a 10MB "uncapped" subscription every month. What a fantastic business model! Congratulations MWEB, you geniuses, you!
