MWeb increased the contracted service price, twice wihin the first six months.

I entered into a contract with MWeb for the supply of a fibre service on 23 March 2018. The cost of the contract was R499.

When the VAT increased in April 2018 by 1%, MWeb increased my monthly subscription by 3%. I wrote to them on 2 May 2018, then they said the increase was due to "an increase in operational cost". How is this possible, 1 month after entering into a contract for a year?

On 1 August 2018 I was informed of another price increase, increasing the cost of my service by 6% over just 5 months. On an annual basis, this represents an increase of 14.4%, more than 3 times the current inflation rate. MWeb's excuse was again simply that this was due to another increase in operational cost.

I said to MWeb this makes no sense, as I can still get exactly this same service from another service provider for R499 per month, the price I subscribed for with MWeb. So if they did not want to correct the price, they must cancel the contract so that I can move. MWeb's response was that if I cancel, I will have to pay thousands of rands for the router, installation, etc.

This is ******ion. I am not even halfway into the contract, and MWeb has already increased the contracted price twice. What will happen during the remainder of the period?

Be VERY VERY careful before entering into a contract with MWeb.
