Mweb Deducted R3 300 Without Active Service or Signed Contract
I am absolutely shocked by Mweb’s ********* billing practices.
My internet service with Mweb was suspended over two months ago after a debit order bounced. Since then, I have not had access to any service, and I never reactivated or authorised reconnection. Despite this, Mweb deducted R3 300 from my husband’s bank account this morning without any warning, notice, or consent.
I have never signed a formal service contract with Mweb and was never informed that I would be billed for a suspended service. The only document I have on record is a debit order mandate - which does not authorise lump-sum deductions for months when no service was rendered.
This deduction is in clear violation of the Consumer Protection Act (Section 54), which guarantees the right to pay only for services actually received. It also breaches PASA debit order regulations, as Mweb processed this debit without valid consent. I am demanding that Mweb: 1. Refund the full R3 300 deducted today 2. Provide a copy of any signed service agreement authorising this charge. 3. Close the account immediately to prevent further unauthorised debits.
I have emailed Mweb billing and cancellations with all supporting details. If this is not resolved within 48 hours, I will escalate the matter to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO).
Consumers deserve transparency and fairness — not unexplained charges for services they haven’t received.
