Just about a year and a half ago, I saw this nice advert on Facebook, from Mweb. 25 Mb LTE, Uncapped, Free installation, No Contract month to month.
I decided to try them out and did the application. I spoke to a sales lady, and confirmed the adverti*****t. I specifically asked if this was a month to month service, because I knew the signal is bad in our area, and if the LTE service is too unreliable, I want to be able to terminate the service. They assured me, all I'd need is to give 30 days notice.
So the service was alright for the most part. Had it's ups and downs. Frustrating part was, you can never get any of their support on the line. Using the app to log queries, 3/8 of the queries I logged, was automatically closed from their side after a week, because of no activity... Them not even bothering to respond.
I kept trying. I spoke to MTN, through which Mweb use their LTE, and MTN people helped me with specification for a router that is compatible with their LTE, and that support external LTE antennae....once again, because Mweb support just ignore you...., but on MTN recommendation I spent another R5k on buying a new router and external antennae to improve the LTE service. It helped, and I stuck it out, as my only alternative here, is a 5mb ADSL with Telkom.
That brings us to now, around 16 months since I joined Mweb on that LTE month to month. Telkom finally put in fibre in our area, and I got the fibre installed, and started the process of ending the Mweb. Surprise surprise. First thing I get is a new invoice for th next month, then I got a e-mail, saying I owe them R760 early cancellation penalty.... Finally got someone on X to respond from Mweb, and they emailed me a service agreement, that I apparently agreed to at some point, that says the installation is only free if you stick around for 2 years.... So the whole month to month and free installation was complete lies.
So, just frustrated and angry I just wanted to get rid of them. So I paid the R760 penalty + the R599 that they stated I owed on the invoice. So they sent me a e-mail confirming the service will be cancelled, and that they will refund the R599 that I paid... So I felt a little better..., but so I wait... and nothing happens. End of the month ( Easter Weekend ), the debit order goes off again for another R599.... Thats when I lost it, and I started getting Capitec involved since I stopped the debit order from my side, after I paid the last instalment etc... Big back and forth between them, and finally on the 6th Mweb thought themselves kind enough to finally repay the R1200. After completely ruining my Easter weekend.
