MWEB and Cell C Misleading Customers

I took out a contract with MWEB for internet services (in conjunction with Cell C) and received a tablet as part of this. The MWEB sales staff led me to believe that I would be notified upon expiry of the contract term with the option to cancel or receive an upgrade upon renewal. Whilst I did not go through the contract in detail at the time, I was not made aware that this was not the case, and - as renewal upgrades are the industry norm - I had no reason to think otherwise.

When I was not notified on expiry, I contacted MWEB and was informed that I was not entitled to an upgrade. No reason was given for not informing me of contract expiry.

I cannot say whether I was deliberately misled by sales staff, however I feel I should have been verbally informed of this unconventional aspect of the contract conditions.

I would therefore suggest that consumers take due care before buying MWEB or Cell C products and not take the offerings at face value.

Hello lrundle,

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns.

Our customer care representative has since been in contact with you.

The package you were signed up for, was a promotional deal.

You received a FREE tablet with the R99.00, 24 month contract. This was run for a limited time only.

We cannot offer you an upgrade on the device, as the contract was for the 2GB data.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further feedback or assistance.

Kind Regards
MWEB Client Services
