Hello Velma.
We understand how frustrating inconsistent speeds and limited support can be, especially when you rely on a stable connection day to day. While your case is being reviewed, here are a few expert checks that can significantly improve performance on a MetroFibre line: Key steps to improve speed and stability 1. Use a wired (Ethernet) connection for testing
Connect a device directly to the router with a LAN cable.
Why this helps: It isolates WiFi interference and confirms whether the issue is on the fibre line or within your home network. 2. Check router placement
Place your router in an open, central area, elevated, and away from thick walls or metal objects.
Why this helps: WiFi signals weaken through obstacles, which can cause slow or unstable speeds. 3. Split 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks
If your router allows it, use separate SSIDs for each band.
Why this helps: 5GHz offers faster speeds at short range, while 2.4GHz is better for distance. Separating them lets you choose the best option per device. 4. Limit background usage
Pause downloads, streaming, or updates on other devices while testing.
Why this helps: Heavy usage across multiple devices can reduce available bandwidth and impact speed tests. 5. Reboot ONT and router (correct sequence)
Turn off both, wait 60 seconds, power on the ONT first, then the router.
Why this helps: Refreshes your fibre session and clears temporary network faults. 6. Check ONT lights
Ensure there are no red or flashing LOS lights.
Why this helps: Indicates whether there’s a fibre signal issue that needs network-level intervention. If speeds remain inconsistent after these checks, it points to a potential line or provisioning issue, which our technical team will need to address directly via private message.

17 Apr 2026, 13:00MWEB is an absolute disaster. Since March 13th, I have fought endlessly to cancel my fiber line. After spending over R500 on calls and enduring countless useless live chats, this is still unresolved. I have not received a single cancellation reference. This is beyond incompetence. The fiber line must be canceled by April 30th, no earlier. I will not pay a cent more, and my LTE line stays. I am escalating this nightmare to Hellopeter right now. MWEB is completely unacceptable

17 Apr 2026, 13:23I have had my line since April 2023 and never once had a problem—until now. This is the first time I have encountered such abysmal service. I demand immediate cancellation of my fiber line by April 30th. Despite my repeated attempts, I still have no email confirmation. If my LTE line is also canceled, I will escalate this to ICASA, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa. You can be contacted at *** or at +***0. I expect a written response today with a clear cancellation reference number. If this is not resolved, I will file a formal complaint. I will not pay any further charges, and this must be finalized immediately

17 Apr 2026, 13:29Hi Velma, we can see how much frustration this situation has caused, since 13 March you’ve been trying to cancel the fibre line, spending both time and money on calls and chats, and still not receiving a cancellation reference or clear confirmation. That lack of closure at this stage is understandably unacceptable. Your cancellation request is currently with our Retentions team, who are actively working on it to ensure it is processed correctly and cleanly. The team is handling this directly so that the fibre line can be cancelled while ensuring your LTE service remains active as requested. At this stage, the focus is on finalising the cancellation in the system and issuing your official cancellation reference, which will confirm the outcome and ensure billing is aligned correctly so there are no further unexpected charges. We are taking full ownership of this and making sure it is concluded properly so you don’t have to continue following up. Kind regards,
