Is this what is called service these days?

I upgraded my ADSL internet access to fibre. So far I haven't noticed any improvement. The Wi-Fi unit is a 5V device that looks like it came in a lucky packet. When I phoned MWB they say this is the only one they have but 'I can go and buy myself a better one if I want to' What kind of service is that??
