Intermittent Openserve fiber connection

My Openserve connection is intermittent. I tried to report the problem to Mweb via all their communication options including phone (waited in a queue for over 1.5 hours but agent just made me switch my fiber modem and router off and back on which did not solve the problem), Chat (absolutely useless) and email (no response). All I want is for Mweb to escalate the problem to Openserve, how difficult can it be?

Hi Lourens, thank you for sharing your experience. We completely understand how frustrating it must be to deal with an intermittent connection, especially after spending so much time on calls, chats, and emails without a resolution. Please be assured that an escalation has been logged on your account, and our team will coordinate with Openserve to investigate and resolve the connection issue. You will receive feedback directly from us once the matter has been reviewed and a resolution is in place. We appreciate your patience while we work to get your service stable and reliable. Your experience is important to us, and we are committed to ensuring this is resolved as quickly as possible. U^

Best regards,

OpenServe blamed my router as the cause of the intermittent internet connection problem. I replaced my router with a MWeb provided Zyxel router. On Sunday, 15 March 2026 I got in touch with Elmie from the MWeb technical support dept. After configuring the Zylxel router Elmie also concluded that the OpenServe line is the problem. Elmie escalated the problem to OpenServe, ref MWB***8. The problem I have with MWeb is the difficulty trying to reach them via phone anytime during the week. Weekends, and specifically Sundays is the only time I manage to get in touch with them with reasonable ease. This is a major problem as I can't wait for Sundays to get my technical issues sorted out. Any other form of communication with MWeb simply doesn't work!!

Hello  Lourens. Thank you for sharing this detailed feedback. We can confirm that one of our technical support agents assisted you over the weekend and successfully worked through the troubleshooting with the new Zyxel router. Based on those checks, the intermittent connection was identified as a line-related fault and has been escalated to Openserve under reference MWB***8 for further investigation. We also recognise how challenging it has been trying to reach support during the week. Being able to connect with us when you need assistance is an important part of the overall service experience. Your feedback regarding the difficulty in getting through via phone has been shared with our customer journey teams so they can review and improve where necessary as a priority. We appreciate you taking the time to highlight both the technical issue and the service experience. We will do our best to improve and be better.

Kind regards,
The Mweb Team

Thank you for your reply. It's a pity I must get status feedback via a review platform. I cannot fathom why this is the case. Why can someone at MWeb not simply pick up a phone a talk to me? It's beyond me.

As a pensioner I pay hard earned money for MWeb. It's only fair to expect better service for my hard earned money.

The intermittent internet connection problem is not solved, I'm still experiencing "freezes" during Teams and Zoom meetings. Please request OpenServe to rectify the problem.

Hi Lourens, we understand how frustrating it can be to experience intermittent connectivity, especially during important Teams and Zoom meetings. To ensure the issue is properly addressed, a fault will need to be logged with our Technical Team. They will conduct the necessary checks to identify the cause and assist in resolving the problem. Please note that an Unnecessary Callout (UCOC) fee may apply if a technician visit determines that the issue was caused by customer equipment (for example, an unplugged cable, router switched off, or cable damage).Could you please confirm if you would like us to proceed with logging the fault so our team can investigate and assist further?Kind regards,
Mweb Team

Yes, please proceed with the logging of the fault. I was under the impression you already did that. Refer MWEB ref number MWBThreeThreeNineSixZeroFourZeroEight. I already had a onsite visit from an OpenServe Technician (Dylan) and he couldn't find anything wrong on my side. Your own technician, Elmie deduced that all is OK on my side and that the problem lies somewhere in the OpenServe line. PLease focus on the OpenServe side.

Based on the amount of effort I had to put in to sort out my problem my Hellopeter rating remains one out of five for MWEb. In addition their faceless, inhuman (virtual) way of communication is totally unacceptable. The difficulty I experienced w.r.t. phone communication with their Technical support team (hours long waiting queues) is unacceptable and unfathomable. I will definitely not recommend MWeb to anyone.

Your Lorenzo at MWeb Technical Support logged a new ticket on 25 March 2026 for Openserve to fix my fiber connection problem which has now transitioned from intermittent to permanent. Please provide a ticket number. It is 27 March 2026 and Openserve has not attended to the problem yet, why?

Hi Lourens,  we completely understand how frustrating this must be,  having an intermittent issue turn into a complete outage and still waiting for Openserve to attend is definitely not the experience you should be having. Your ticket MWB***3, which Lorenzo logged on 25 March 2026, is still active with our Technical Support team. The matter is being followed up with Openserve to get the fiber connection restored as soon as possible. While the delay is not ideal, please rest assured that we are monitoring this closely and will provide you with updates as soon as we receive feedback from Openserve. We’re keeping track of your case to ensure it’s seen through until your service is fully restored.
Kind regards

My internet connection woes were eventually sorted out no thanks to MWeb. Their service remains atrocious. I managed to get in direct touch with the folk at Openserve in Lyttelton. Thanks to Andries Motaung (Openserve Supervisor) and his team my problem was solved.
