My life is being controlled by incompetence from both MWEB and Telkom. I was forced to upgrade my MWEB ADSL to LTE because Telkom either can’t or won’t repair our faulty landline. Unfortunately they also refuse to activate the sim card for our new wireless phone, making communication with MWEB extremely difficult. MWEB sent me a router and sim card without too much bother. A couple of days later I received a message that my new connection had been activated. Unfortunately it doesn’t work! It is only due to Telkom’s incompetence that I’ve been able to get my ADSL reactivated on a temporary basis though I’ve already had to get my so-called ADSL trial renewed twice. As soon as I discovered the problem I phoned MWEB to let them know that something wasn’t working, struggling to make myself heard on a defective landline. After establishing that the sim card works in my cell phone, I was told the router would be replaced in seven to ten days. About ten days later a courier arrived without confirming that I was home. He said he’d come to fetch the router FOR REPAIR. As I was expecting a replacement, I didn’t give it to him. As our landline isn’t working properly I didn’t think to phone MWEB to enquire about this until after he’d left. I doubt he’d have waited for half an hour while I struggled with the phone anyway! When I eventually managed to get through I was told that MWEB take the router for testing and only send the replacement twenty-four hours later. Although I informed MWEB of the problem before close of business that day and have complained almost daily since then, ten days later no further attempt has been made to collect the router. I’ve had to put my life on hold because I’m scared to leave home during business hours in case I miss the courier. I asked a member of MWEB support staff whether my internet would work with a different router (if I buy one). She said yes, but they won’t refund me. I’m so desperate I might be forced to do it anyway. I urgently need to go to a Telkom shop as the phone is my elderly mother’s only means of communication, but I’m not free to do so. MWEB certainly knows how to make life difficult for its customers. They don’t have shops anymore, so all dealings can only be done either by phone or online. How do I know the problem has been correctly diagnosed when I have no technical knowledge? I need help from a real person, but when dealing with MWEB the only person the customer ever sees is a courier who knows nothing about the technology he delivers. I’ve been an MWEB customer for about twenty years, but apparently my business doesn’t matter to them.
