False advertising

Beware of MWeb false advertising on their web site. They advertise an ADSL UNCAPPED package, they give you a price, but when you try to sign on, they then tell you that their suppossely uncapped package has monthly and daily threshold and that they will throttle your account (make it real slow) if you do not adhere to it.

Does MWeb not understand the meaning of Uncapped?

They do, it is a strategy to get you to sign and then force you to upgrade (AND pay more) to get what you thought you were signing for.

Misleading advertising at its best!!

Good day leonardoklemain,

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns.

Our customer care representative has since made contact with you.

The Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) and The Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) defines uncapped as follows:

Uncapped refers to products where predetermined limits may still be relevant, but connectivity is never severed. It does, however, appear to be common practice for service providers to reduce speeds when thresholds are reached.

Also noted that the package is not being throttled as yet and that we will provide you the thresholds imposed on our accounts, via a link to our website.

We will be in contact with you, regarding the downgrade which has taken place on your account.

Kind regards
MWEB Client Services

Best regards,

All that MWeb is doing is referring the customer to a suppossed ruling by ISPA. Nowhere they answer regarding false advertising and misleading the customer regarding the meaning of uncapped. If they refer at all to throtling accounts, it is done in a way that being so hidden, it will never be found.

Foa all account and purposes, this is still misleading and false and a company like MWeb, which pretends to be customer reactive, is playing plain dirty tricks!!

Good Day Leonard,

Thanks for your feedback.

As advised to you, uncapped does not refer to unlimited.

All our uncapped shaped packages are subject to throttling thresholds.

We have not advertised these products as unlimited and do provide the thresholds of our products upon request.

I have also provided you a link to our help site which contains all the package thresholds.

Furthermore, if you access My account; it clearly displays the thresholds imposed on your package as well.

Kind regards
MWEB client Services

Best regards,

LK

As you say: "On Request".

Meaning clearly that you feel a backlash in customers' feeling and therefore potential business if you are fair, open and transparent.

Fair advertising is to disclose everything. Hiding facts is misleading and therefore untruthful.

No way around this. People that read this will know how to interpret MWeb promises.
