Dispute of Early Termination Charge

I cancelled my MWEB service a month ago due to ongoing issues. In March, the internet was unavailable for 27 out of 31 days, and attempts to get assistance from customer service were extremely difficult. I only received support after submitting a complaint on HelloPeter.

As per the terms, I served the required one-month notice period and settled the corresponding invoice. However, I have now received an additional invoice for R1437, citing early contract termination. This is unclear to me, as I have already fulfilled and paid for the notice period.

Despite the poor service, I also incurred additional costs for mobile data in order to remain operational, as I work full-time from home, while continuing to pay for a service that was largely unavailable.

What is the basis of this charge??? Based on my understanding of the agreement and the fact that the notice period has been honoured, I do not believe this fee is applicable and will not be making payment.

Hi Stephanie,
We understand how frustrating and disappointing this has been, especially after experiencing extended service downtime, honouring the required notice period, settling the final invoice, and then receiving an unexpected additional charge. This is certainly not the experience we want for our clients, and we recognise the impact this has had on you, particularly given that you rely on connectivity for work.
The account has been reviewed, and confirmed that the R1,437 charge relates to an Installation and Activation clawback fee, which becomes applicable when a service is terminated early before the minimum contract term is completed. While the notice period was served and paid for, this clawback is separate from the monthly subscription and is linked to the upfront installation and activation costs that were subsidised at the start of the service.
If you require any further assistance, you’re welcome to reach out via a private message on Hello Peter, where we can continue assisting you.
Kind regards,
Mweb Team
