Bad Price Lock Deal

In April 2016 I entered into a “Price Lock” contract with MWEB/MultiChoice for a new Explorer DSTV decoder and an MWEB ADSL internet Router complete with installation. The advertised price was R1049 for 24 months.

After the goods were delivered I received a call from an MWEB representative confirming the deal and mentioned that R1299 would be deducted from my account on a monthly basis. I informed him that this was incorrect and that I agreed to R1049 as the advert stated. I also told him that I had confirmed this amount to the previous salesman more than once. This chap said there must have been a misunderstanding in the deal. The reason for the additional amount was the line rental which they said they were not aware of. My previous ADSL system was with MWEB and this may have been a misunderstanding from there side and they are not prepared to budge on the price.

To make the issue worse the new ADSL system supp**** with the deal (which I have had and was working perfectly for the past 28 months) was now very much slower than before. I contacted MWEB and they tried a couple of quick fixes and placed the blame on the line and the wifi system. The end result was they could not do any more.

I have sent MultiChoice a few emails requesting the tape recordings of the telephone conversations but they have ignored them all. To contact somebody at MultiChoice with any authority is virtually impossible.

Are we as consumers obliged to accept this poor service? Could you advise what action I should take from here?

Regards,

Warwick Payton

Reviewer Update

To date 28th July 2016 still nothing from MWEB has been resolved. MWEB have been very disappointing regarding their follow ups as twice now they have responded to my complaints and twice said they would come back to me and twice failed to call me back. Clearly MWEB are just not interested in the problem and have not taken my complaint serious.
