I write this with profound disappointment, simmering frustration, and, quite frankly, utter disgust at the manner in which I have been treated by MWEB—a company I remained loyal to for over six years. Loyalty, it seems, counts for very little. In December, I fell short on my account by a mere R60—a negligible amount by any reasonable standard. This was not negligence, but a conscious decision with the clear intention of settling the balance in the following billing cycle. Instead of any semblance of understanding or goodwill, I was met with a cold, mechanical threat: my services were to be terminated due to arrears. Concerned, I contacted MWEB. What followed was an ordeal in itself—over 45 minutes on hold, only to eventually speak to an agent who demonstrated neither empathy nor discretion. Despite my explanation and assurance that the shortfall would be rectified imminently, I was told, in no uncertain terms, that nothing could be done and that my service would be suspended regardless. No flexibility. No appreciation for a long-standing client. No humanity. At that moment, I made the decision to terminate my contract. Ironically, even in my attempt to leave, I was informed that I would be forced to serve a 30-day notice period—effectively binding me to a service that had already demonstrated its indifference to my circumstances. I comp****. During this notice period, I was contacted by a sales representative who inquired about my decision to leave. I explained, candidly, that after years of loyalty, I found their treatment unacceptable. His response? A hollow acknowledgment and confirmation that my line—provided via Vumatel—would be released on 1 April 2026. Simple enough. Or so I thought. On 1 April, my new service provider attempted to activate my line, only to be met with a shocking revelation: the line would only be released on 1 May 2026. No prior communication. No explanation. No accountability. The consequence? I have been left without internet access, unable to secure alternative service because the line remains inexplicably locked. My household has been thrown into disarray—particularly as my wife works from home, making this not merely an inconvenience, but a direct disruption to our livelihood. What compounds this already unacceptable situation is the complete breakdown in communication. I have attempted, through every official channel provided by MWEB, to seek clarity—yet I am met with silence. No responses. No assistance. Nothing. This is not just poor service. This is systemic disregard for customers. Let me be clear: this experience has exposed a deeply troubling culture—one where clients are treated as disposable, where empathy is absent, and where accountability is nonexistent. It is an experience that forces one to question whether respect and fairness are selectively app****. We live in a South Africa that has long since moved beyond the shadows of exclusion and inequality. Yet, in moments like this, one cannot help but feel reduced to a mere number—dismissed, unheard, and disrespected. Shame on MWEB. Shame on a company that cannot extend basic decency to a loyal customer.
Shame on a system that traps clients in contracts but fails to honour its own commitments.
And shame on the silence that follows when accountability is demanded. I urge anyone who has experienced similar treatment to reconsider their options carefully. Loyalty must be mutual. Respect must be earned—and maintained. As for me, this chapter is closed. But the manner in which it has ended will not be forgotten.

Hello Bongani,

We understand how deeply frustrating, exhausting, and disheartening this entire experience must have been for you, especially after being a loyal customer for over six years and expecting a level of service that reflects that relationship. It is also completely understandable that the lack of clear communication, the delays with your line release, and the impact this has had on your household and your wife’s ability to work from home has created significant stress and disruption. No customer should be left feeling unheard or uncertain when trying to resolve something as critical as connectivity, particularly when it directly affects day-to-day living and work responsibilities.

We have reached out to our Cancellations Team to urgently follow up on the line release and prioritise this matter. They will engage with the relevant departments to confirm the status of the release and provide you with direct feedback as soon as possible, so that clarity can be restored without further delay.

Your experience has been formally escalated and will also be shared with our Service Quality Team for internal review, as the communication gaps and delays you described do not reflect the standard of service we aim to uphold.

Should you require any further assistance or wish to follow up, you are welcome to send us a direct message on Hello Peter and we will gladly assist.

Kind regards,
Mweb Team

Thank you for your response. While I acknowledge the tone of concern now being expressed, I cannot help but note—rather pointedly—that had this level of urgency, care, and internal escalation been app**** from the outset, we would not find ourselves in this entirely avoidable predicament. What I experienced was not merely a service lapse, but a consistent absence of diligence, ownership, and basic client care. For a customer of over six years, the handling of my matter reflected no meaningful effort at retention, no flexibility, and certainly no appreciation of loyalty—only rigid process and indifference. It is somewhat ironic that only once the matter has escalated publicly does it now attract the attention and responsiveness it always warranted. That said, I do appreciate you reaching out and initiating corrective action at this stage. However, I must be candid in saying that my trust in MWEB has been significantly eroded, and any assurances now will ultimately be measured against speed, transparency, and actual resolution—not intention. I remain hopeful that this matter will now be resolved with the urgency it deserves, as the current situation—being without connectivity—continues to have a tangible impact on my household. I look forward to a swift and decisive resolution, and, for your sake, one that begins to restore even a fraction of the confidence that has been lost.

I write to express my grave dissatisfaction and escalating concern regarding the continued and unjustifiable delay in the release of my fibre line, despite having duly served the required 30-day notice period in full. At this juncture, the situation no longer appears to be a mere administrative oversight. It now borders on one—or a combination—of the following:
  • Systemic incompetence within MWEB’s operational framework
  • A profound failure in your escalation and service recovery matrix
  • Or, most concerningly, a complete absence of care and accountability toward your clients
Having honored my contractual obligations in their entirety, there exists no legitimate basis—contractual or operational—for any further delay in releasing my line. The continued restriction of access is therefore not only unwarranted, but increasingly indefensible. The effect of this delay has been severe. I have been left without connectivity, unable to onboard an alternative provider due to the line remaining locked. This has directly impacted my household—most critically, my wife’s ability to work from home—thereby compromising both our professional responsibilities and our family stability. To be unequivocally clear:
What I am experiencing now feels less like inefficiency and more like institutional disregard, if not outright spiteful obstruction. It is deeply troubling that a matter of this nature—simple in execution and standard in industry practice—has devolved into such a protracted and disruptive ordeal. Should this matter not be resolved with immediate effect, I will have no alternative but to escalate this formally to the National Consumer Commission, as this conduct constitutes not only unfair business practice, but also a serious infringement on my rights as a consumer. I urge MWEB to act decisively and rectify this without further delay. Any additional inaction will only reinforce the perception that client welfare is neither prioritized nor protected within your organization. I expect confirmation of resolution as a matter of urgency.
