MTNs retail store strategy needs to be rethought. I walked into three different store - Centurion and both of Sandton City - and was met by too many staff, little to zero product knowledge, even less professionalism and no desire to be of assistance. In the first Sandton store I was told to go to the other store “because that’s where they know about the business contracts” and when I got there I was told that was absolute nonsense.
In a country with a horrible economy right now, MTN is quite literally repulsing business and turning revenue away. It would be smarter if they closed every retail store and sought other ways to inform and attract customers.
In the Sandton store one assistance was sitting on the floor, tapping away at this phone. He didn’t even look up when I spoke. When the other assistant couldn’t answer my question about a specific business contract, she called the “expert consultant” who was apparently in Rosebank helping other clients. I left my name and number but, not surprisingly, nobody’s called me back to answer my question.
I finally got my questions answered in the Rosebank store. But I don’t know many consumers who would be so persistent to try out four different retail locations to get product information.
An absolute miss.
