Worst service ever - MTN doesn't give a damn

The last three weeks has simply confirmed for me that MTN really doesn’t care at all about their clients. 3 weeks in, 4 different reference numbers and about 8 calls and they still messed up my billing for August.

On Thursday the 8th of September I called in querying a data charge for the 9th of August of just over R210 that was on my itemised bill. I was given a reference and told that someone will call me back within 24 hours. The following Monday I called back as no one had contacted me and was told that the person had logged it to the wring department. New reference number given and told I would now need to wait 48 hours for feedback. Once again no one called me and I called back on the Thursday to be told there detail that was captured was insufficient and the call had been sent back. To who exactly since no one picked up a call to ask me for the extra detail. I then gave them the extra detail and got my third reference number. I called in again on Friday the 16th ( I wondered at this stage if MTN can even call out) and was told that a request had been sent for a credit minute for R466 (can’t remember the exact amount) against my account and it will reflect on my account in the next few days. Please note that they have never actually answered my query about the data and they are crediting me much more that I queried.

I called in again the following Tuesday or Wednesday as it was still not reflecting and my debit order runs on the 25th of each month. Was given an assurance that it will be credited and was given another reference number and promised that they would follow up with me to make sure it would be done. At this stage I also stated that I did not want the credit note to just be put on my account but that I also expected that it be taken off the amount that was to be debited.

On Friday the 23rd of September I finally got a call back from MTN to be told the exact same thing I had been told earlier that week, that a credit note will be passed but once again it will just go on my account and not be offset against my debit order. At this stage I gave up my battle to remain calm and told Ryan (from MTN) that in no uncertain terms he needed to fix this and make sure that my account is not debited the full amount but rather the amount less the credit note. He was meant to come back to me. Still waiting for that call.

I called in again on Monday to confirm how much will be deducted from my account (the debit order was running on the 26th this month as the 25th was a Sunday) and was told the full amount. I asked for a supervisor and get this, was put on hold, had the call dropped, called in again and had the call dropped again, called in a third time and transferred to a number that doesn’t exist and finally on the 4th time got to speak to a supervisor, Msizi.

Msizi finally after a lot of round about conversation figured out that some bright spark has app**** the credit note to my September billing and not my August billing . NOW this becomes my issue as I have had a ridiculous unplanned for amount deducted from my account because they can’t figure out that my query about data from the 9th of August relates to my AUGUST bill.

I told Msizi that this is not my issue and he needs to fix it. I hav e a contract with MTN and I pay my account in arrears. The credit note was for my August account not September so they need to apply it to the correct month. I live on a budget just like ALL other South Africans. Why should I be impacted by their ineptitude. I am still waiting for Msizi to call me back.

Top that off at the same time as dealing with this query I did my upgrade through MTN direct and almost had the phone delivered to Polokwane when I am in Sandton, had to follow up 3 or 4 times and had to even call the courier service to get them to fix the issue.

If I hadn’t just signed a new contract I would definitely be changing providers. As it is I am locked in but I will definitely tell absolutely everyone I know not to use MTN. Their service is the worst I have ever experienced. Once they have you they honestly don’t care about you.

I saw the credit into my account. Find it fascinating though that no one bothered to pick up the phone and call me to tell me what was going to happen. Feedback that I was in fact promised. I am also interested in your response though because my ENTIRE query was not for that period but rather SPECIFICALLY for a data line item for the 9th of August which MTN have charged me about R210 for. I am still waiting for an answer about that specific line item as I am not charges for any data before it or after it for almost 10 days so clearly I was still withing my data bundle. When is someone going to answer that question as it was in fact my original question?
