Why I wouldn't buy Sony Device from MTN again!!

In Dec 2014 I upgraded to the Sony XperiaZ3 Compact with MTN which is advertised as being IP65/68 & all Sony's operating instructions indicate is that phone can be used under water as long as all ports are closed, phone is not submerged for longer than 30min & at depth of 1.5m [URL Removed]

When taking my phone in for repairs however the service reports the phone has water damage & automatically the warranty is voided because according to them \I must not have adhered to the above operating procedures\" even though they have no evidence this is the case other then having found water in the device & did not even consider equipment failure (app. that is impossible). The service centre did not even contact me to let me know about the outcome, I had to contact them, the agent I spoke to would not even entertain my enquiry, when asked to speak to manager I was told someone would call, no one has contacted me to date.

Being water**** was one of their biggest selling points but now that I'm claiming for damage apparently I'm at fault even though I adhered to SOPs. That is false advertising IMO & bad customer service!!"

Hello dale.isaacs,

Thank you for your post.

We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience that you experienced as a result of this. We completely understand the frustration it has caused.

According to a report received from our High Volume Repair centre, the handset was sent for pressure tests and the results showed that the caps are worn out hence the reason unit became liquid damage when it was put under water. The warranty does not cover any liquid damage.

HVRC (Repair centre) is guided by the handset Manufacturers Repairs guidelines and in accordance with their Standards and mandate.

Rest assured, it is not our intention to displease you. We look forward to improving on the service delivery to you.

Regards,
Ayanda
