Was MTN's Black Friday data deals a hoax?

I signed up online for MTN's R199pm 20gb/pm black Friday data deal 24/11/2017 hoping to avoid queuing at malls etc I was given a reference number for my application and the email stipulated I would be contacted within 24hrs, 1 week went by no call, I had to DM their twitter account asking what the hell is going on, finally received a call a few hours later.

The lady seemed very nice, asking a bunch of security/verification questions as I am a new customer, which is fine. She told me someone would contact me within the hour to finalize everything. No call for two days, once again DM'd MTNs twitter, received a call a few hours later asking the same security questions etc, after recieved an email to submit the requisite documents.(ID/bank statement etc).

As of today 08/12/2017 received no valid information about the status of this contract and why there is such a massive delay. I cancelled my mobile data account with axxess.co.za on black Friday fully expecting this contract to be active. Nobody at MTNs call center can help me because they know absolutely nothing about online sales. However I was given the SUPERVISOR of MTN online sales email address yesterday, Nosipho Khoza, sent her an email. NO REPLY.

I don't understand, does MTN not want business? I thought Vodacom was but this is just a new level of horrible service.

Hi Kabelo, It's now midday and I still have not been contact in any form by MTN. I submitted my documents almost two weeks ago. How long does the vetting process take? I was under the impression this was a 24 month contract for a R199/pm deal, but it seems the amount of time the vetting department is taking, one could easy think this was a R1 000 000/pm contract ? WHAT IS GOING ON????????

MTNS response here: 11 Dec 2017, 20:17 3 days ago ZERO UPDATE FROM THEM SINCE. WHAT IS GOING ON? DOES THE ONLINE DEPARTMENT WORK? "We would like to advise that this matter is receiving priority attention. We have referred the matter to the relevant department as urgent therefore we anticipate a resolution of the issue within the shortest period possible." Is this just a copy paste response?
